“Ego”, de Beyoncé

“Ego” és una cançó R & B de la cantant nord-americana Beyoncé, escrita i produïda per Elvis “BlacElvis” Williams, Harold Lilly, i Knowles, per al seu tercer àlbum d’estudi I Am.. Sasha Fierce. Va ser llançada el 19 de maig de 2009 com cinquè senzill a partir de l’edició deluxe de l’àlbum. El remix compta amb la col·laboració del raper Kanye West que s’inclou al CD/DVD “Above and Beyoncé – Video Collection & Dance Mixes”.

“Ego” es va pensar com el tercer senzill de l’àlbum, però va ser reemplaçat per Diva.
Knowles va dir a MTV:  “la cançó parla de les converses d’homes que són molt segurs de si mateixos i que són molt presumits i arrogants al caminar i al parlar, el que ha fet atret cap a ells”.

Com podreu observar, la cançó es titula “Ego” (una paraula llatina que alhora prové del grec).
Ego = Aquest ésser interior que estimes tant, és una cosa així com l’autoestima i valorar-se a un mateix. Quan algú no es vol prou es diu que té l’ego molt baix, al contrari de la gent que és una mica “creguda”, que en aquest cas direm que té l’ego molt alt.

 La relació entre el títol i el significat de la cançó té a veure amb això mateix, ja que Beyoncé es creu la millor cantant, la millor ballarina, etc… Es creu una Diva.

”Selene” d’Imagine Dragons

Fent un article a ‘L’univers clàssic dels nostres mots’ sobre Selene he trobat una cançó d’un grup que m’agrada molt, Imagine Dragons.

Imagine Dragons és una banda de indie rock dels Estats Units, originària de Las Vegas (Nevada). La revista Billboard els va qualificar com a “La Banda Revelació del 2013”, i la revista Rolling Stone qualifica de “millor èxit de rock de l’any” al seu senzill Radioactive.

Juan Esteban Aristizábal Vásquez, més conegut com a Juanes, és un cantant colombià de pop i rock en espanyol que va néixer el 9 d’agost del 1972 a Carolina del Príncipe, Colòmbia. Una de les seves cançons més conegudes és La Camisa Negra, que va despertar polèmica, ja que va ser utilitzada per fer apologia del neofeixisme a Itàlia. Ha guanyat dotze premis Grammy Latinos. Fora de la seva carrera musical, se’l coneix pel seu treball humanitari en favor de víctimes de mines antipersona a Colòmbia.

Thanatos, de Soap&Skin

Anja Plaschg, que canta sota el nom de Soap&Skin, és una artista molt obscura. Tant es així, que de tots els mites o déus grecs als quals els podria dedicar una cançó, va decidir ni més ni menys que Thanatos. O potser thanatos, amb minúscula, doncs no clarifica si canta sobre el daimon o sobre el nom. El que sabem segur és que és una cançó sinistre sobre la mort, fins i tot podria referir-se als dos.

Plaschg es caracteritza pel seu estil fosc, experimentant amb música electrònica i amb unes pinzellades neoclàssiques. Si escoltem altres de les seves cançons, no estranya tant que li hagi dedicat una cançó a la mort. La lletra mostra un estil d’escriptura molt barroc a l’hora d’utilitzar paraules complicades, cultes i difícils, amb diversos clarobscurs. No relata una història o trama clara, però sabem que parla de la mort per alguns versos.

“So ein Schöner Tag” és una cançó alemanya del cantant Tim Toupet. La cançó parla del mateix autor que està estirat a l’herba, mirant el cel i aleshores passa un avió i saluda. Seguidament diu que vola com l’avió, és fort com una girafa, salta, neda i agafa de la mà a la persona que li agrada. En l’últim paràgraf repeteix que és un bon dia. Tot i que sembla una cançó per nens petits, és molt coneguda a Alemanya.

Sobretot l’últim fragment de la cançó el podem relacionar amb el tòpic Carpe diem, que significa “agafa amb força el moment”, ja que hem de viure intensament el present, sense que res ens ho impedeixi.

Calypso, de Suzanne Vega

En cap moment podràs dubtar dels coneixements i la cultura de Suzanne Vega, la cantautora americana famosa pel seu estil musical eclèctic basat en el folk tradicional i la seva veu dolça: les seves lletres són pràcticament considerades poesia. Ens ofereix un referent clàssic directe i explícit amb la seva cançó Calypso, de l’any 1987.

Solitude Standing, l’àlbum més aclamat de la seva longeva carrera, ens dona hits clàssics com Luka o Tom’s Diner, entre d’altres. Al tracklist trobem la cançó ja mencionada, Calypso, escrita des del punt de vista de la nimfa quan va deixar anar a Ulisses després de mantenir-lo captiu durant set anys.

“Calypso és mencionada a la primera pàgina [de l’Odissea d’Homer] i ningú torna a parlar sobre/amb ella, ni tan sols per comprovar com està. Jo recordo haver-me sentit així, per això he escrit aquesta cançó des del seu [Calypso] punt de vista.”

La cançó explica des de la vida de Calipso abans de l’arribada d’Ulisses fins quan ell marxa, els seus sentiments, emocions i opinions, ja que tots aquests no surten a l’Odissea. Vega ens enfoca una part més humana i real de Calipso, com se sentia sola a Ogígia i quant molt estimava Ulisses. Ens relaciona la llegenda amb vivències personals i sentiments passats, el que ens fa sentir la cançó d’una manera més real.

Aquest apunt és més un recordatori d’aquesta cançó, la qual ja té un article al bloc d’aula Aracne  que va ser escrit fa uns anys. Però, opino que aquestes cançons tan clarament clàssiques s’han de recordar més usualment!
