2. Raglan Road

“On Raglan Road” is a well-known Irish song from a poem written by Irish poet Patrick Kavanagh named after Raglan Road in Ballsbridge, Dublin.

The poem was put to music when the poet met Luke Kelly of the Irish band The Dubliners in a pub in Dublin called The Bailey.[8] It was set to the music of the traditional song “The Dawning of the Day” (Fáinne Geal an Lae)

Tomás ‘Jimmy’ Mac Eoin, the composer An Cailin Àlainn, performs it along with Arthur Cormack who first brought it to a Scottish audience whilst a member of Mac-talla. Recorded at Dougie MacLean’s house as part of the television series for TG4 and the BBC, Sruth na Maoile, presented by Mary Ann Kennedy and Seán Ó hÉanaigh. Tomas and Arthur are accompanied by Mary Ann Kennedy (harp), Seán Ó hÉanaigh (guitar), Máire Breatnach (fiddle), Dougie MacLean (guitar) and Andy Thorburn (accordion)
