Pyramus and Thisbe

Recently, we had to read a book called A Midsummer Night’s Dream. This tale was a story about fairies, the Duke of Greece, some weddings, an unrequited love and a myth’s performance.

There is another play inside the play,  Shakespeare was inspired in a popular myth called Pyramus and Thisbe. This explains a story about two lovers whose parents forbid their love but they got to talk through a hole on a wall. The love was growing until they agreed to escape together one night.

That night, Thisbe arrived before and she saw a lioness so she ran to hide herself but her scarf fell and the lioness caught it and stained it with blood. When Pyramus arrived, he saw his lover’s scarf and he thought that she was dead so he took a sword and killed himself. Then, Thisbe returned and when she saw her lover was dead, she took a sword and killed herself too.

Shakespeare does not only show his admiration towards this myth with this book, he also used this story to write another popular play called Romeo and Juliet that all of us know.

This myth’s impact has been important, for that reason, many famous people have been inspired to do things based on this myth, like The Beatles, who represented it as real actors.
