Maroon 5
És un grup de rock-pop estatunidenc format a Califòrnia a la ciutat de Los Angeles, el 1994.
Els integrants del grup es van conèixer a l’institut Brentwood High School de Los Angeles i tocaven música grunge i garatge; en definitiva un rock potent força visceral, amb el nom de Kara’s Flowers. El grup va gravar un disc però al cap de poc van acabar l’nstitut i la seva l’aventura musical també es va acabar.
Al 2001 els quatre joves van reprendre els seus estudis en diferents universitats dels Estats Units, on descobriren nous estils musicals i desenvoluparen un gust per la música pop, R&B, soul, i el gospel, experiències que van influir molt en l’estil i el so de Maroon 5. Els quatre membres originals de Kara’s Flowers es mantingueren en contacte i començaren a tocar junts de nou al 2001 la banda fou rebatejada amb el nom actual.
Amb el seu àlbum debut Songs About Jane, publicat el juny de 2002, aconseguiren obtenir els discos d’or, platí i triple platí en diversos països del món.
Desde llavors han editat quatre albums d’estudi i han guanyat diversos premis i reconeixements.com per exemple Grammys, Mtv Awards i Billboard, entre alters.

Payphone
Es tracta del primer single del seu quart i últim àlbum, titulat Overexposed que es va editar el passat 26 de juny de 2012. Possiblement el seu disc més pop i més divers. Payphone significa telèfon public / cabina telefònica, I la lletra parla del desamor, concretament, una història d’amor que no ha funcionat.

Bruno Mars
Aquesta setmana és una proposta de la Júlia S de 6è. Com que ella, la Mireia i la Laia, dues companyes de classe més han fet recentment un treball sobre aquest músic penso que pot ser una bona idea que el veieu. Així llegiu una mica d’informació sobre Bruno Mars i de passada fem un Bon Dia amb Melodia més interactiu i participatiu, Gràcies!

Va ser el senzill del seu primer disc Doo-Wops & Hooligans que va guanyar un premi Grammy. El disc va ser editat fa relativament poc, el 20 de juliol de 2010. La cançó va ser escrita per The Smeezingtons, Walton Hhalil i Needlz. El vídeo oficial es va estrenar el setembre de 2010 i participa l’actriu Nathalie Kelley.

En quant a la lletra, Bruno Mars no pretén ser massa profund o poètic. Es tracta d’una cançó d’amor clàssica que exalta les qualitats de la noia estimada. Gaudiu-la, que aquest noi ho fa realment bé!

The Lion Sleeps Tonight
Aquesta cançó té una llarga història:
És una versió de la versió africana del tema Mbubu (que en zulú significa lleó) de l’any 1939.
Mbube va ser enregistrada per primera vegada per Solomon Linda i el seu grup The Evening Birds.
Al llarg dels anys 40, Mbube es va convertir en una cançó de gran popularitat a Sudàfrica amb més de 100.000 còpies venudes. Es va gravar en el primer estudi de gravació que es va muntar a Johannesburg. De fet Linda va improvitzar una sèries de notes molt agudes en falset. Aquesta melodia improvitzada va resultar ser la melodia més famosa que mai ha composat cap africà.

Una dècada després, l’any 1951, Alan Lomax va gravar amb Pete Seeger una versió de Mbube, anomenada Wimoweh una distrosió de la paraula zulú Uyimbube) i que interpretava amb la seva banda The Weavers.

Finalment, seri la versió de l’any 1961 adaptada per George Weiss, Luigi Creatore i Hugo Peretti i interpretada pel grup The Tokens, la que va tenir més popularitat amb el títol The Lion Sleeps Tonight.

Més de 150 artistes han gravat aquesta cançó apareix almenys en 15 pel·lícules i musicals. En concepte de drets d’autor ha generat molt milions de dòlars però per una mala gestió Salomon Linda no va rebre cap compensació econòmica, va morir indigent i va deixar a la seva dona i filles molt pobres.

No ha estat fins el 2006 i desprès de demandes i judicis que la familia de Salomon Linda ha pogut recuperar els drets d’aquesta cançó i per tant els beneficis econòmics que genera. Walt Disney arran de la pel·lícula El Rey León s’havia apoderat dels drets de la cançó de forma il·legal sense tenir en compte el seu orígen. Fins i tot s’havia dit que la cançó era d’origen americà.

Finalment doncs les coses han acabat bé i els sudafricans estan contents de que s’hagi fet justícia amb una cançó preciosa creada per un músic pràcticament desconegut, i hagin pogut enfrontar-se a una gran companyia americana com és Walt Disney.

Aquesta setmana és una proposta de la Mar de 2n que li agrada molt aquesta cançó (a mi també) i segurament que no coneixia la interessant història que té al darrere. A més n’he triat vàries versions. Gaudiu-les!

One direction

One Direction és un grup format per 5  joves nascuts a Anglaterra i Irlanda entre 1991 i  1994: Harry Styles, Louis Tomlinson, Liam Payne, Zayn Malik i Niall Horan.

Aquest nois es van presentar de forma individual a les audicions per el programa “The X Factor” el 2010, aconseguint passant a la següent etapa, denominada “Bootcamp (Tallers)”, però no van aconseguir classificar-se individualment. Després, pel suggeriment dels dos membres del jurat , els cinc joves van formar una banda i es van classificar a la categoria de grups. Això les va fer molt populars.

Després de sortir del programa, One Direction va signar un contracte de grabació amb Syco.  A més, el grup va treure al mercat dos llibres per a fans. One Direction i nou concursants més de Factor X van participar en el”X Factor Live Tour”entre febrer i abril del 2011visitant diferents ciutats al Regne Unit i Irlanda. Extramusicalment, la banda ha participat en diverses campanyes publicitàries com Pokémon i Nokia, i a més han editat un calendari 2012 que ha estat el més venut del seu país.

What makes you beautifull

Ells van treballar en el seu àlbum debut amb Savane Kotecha. La banda va donar a conèixer el seu primer Single “What Makes You Beautiful” una canço típica d’amor adolescent el 10 d’agost del 2011 a BBC Radio 1, trencant rècords de pre-venda a Sony Music,  i va ser llançat oficialment el 11 de setembre.  Com acostuma a passar, els autors de la cançó no són ells, sinó els compositors Carl Falk, Savane Kotecha i Rami Yacoub. One Direction va anunciar un Tour per Regne Unit i les entrades es van esgotar en 22 minuts. El 21 de novembre van treure el disc ‘Up All Night’ a la venda.

Van llançar el seu senzill “What Makes You Beautiful” i  van aconseguir el lloc número 1 a iTunes, el seu segon  senzill “Gotta BeYou” actualment es troba en el lloc número 6. Aquesta setmana és una petició de’n Roc de 6è que és d’aquells que els agrada estar a la última! Gràcies per participar i a gaudir de la bona música!

Queen

Banda de rock clàssic britànica formada després de la ruptura del grup Smile en 1970.
Estava formada pel bateria Roger Taylor, el guitarrista Brian May, el baixista John Deacon i per Freddie Mercury, posseïdor d’una veu excepcional amb un registre poc comú: podia cantar de baríton i també de tenor lleuger.
La banda és coneguda per la seva gran diversitat musical, tant vocal com instrumental, així com pels seus multitudinaris concerts. Practiquen diversos estils que no sempre són fàcils d’etiquetar: pop-rock, hard-rock,  rock simfònic, rock progressiu…

Han venut més de 300 milions de discos, una de les bandes de rock que més n’ha venut de la història. La banda va patir un daltabaix quan  Freddie Mercury, va morir d’una bronconeumonia complicada pel SIDA i va deixar  a Queen sense la seva veu.  Desde llavors el grup ha intentat continuar en diferents formats. El baixista John Deacon va anunciar la seva retirada de la música el 1997, mentre que R.Taylor i B.May es van unir a Paul Rodgers formant el projecte Queen + Paul Rodgers.

Per cert, Brian May a part de ser un grandíssim músic, ha estudiat molt i  fa pocs anys va acabar la seva tesi docoral i  aconseguí el títol de  Doctor en astrofísica per Imperial College  i rector honorífic a la Universitat Joon Mores. Un científic de cap a peus!

I Want it all
I want it all ( Ho vull tot) és una cançó inclosa en el disc The Miracle editat l’any 1989. Es tracta, en sí mateixa, d’un himne de rock en que la lletra parla de llibertat i rebelia. Brian May ha dit que, principalment té un missatge d’ambició i de lluitar pels teus objectius. La cançó s’ha utilitzat en diversos anuncis i també en una campanya anti-apartheid (les tutores us explicaran què significa). En uns anys on la música pop es va convertir en la música de masses, té força mèrit que aquesta cançó arribés al nº3 de les llistes de vendes a Anglaterra.
Aquesta setmana és una proposta de la Júlia Ll. de 6è, que em consta que és una gran admiradora de Queen. Doncs bé, gràcies a ella, acabem el trimestre amb una bona dosi de rock! Bones vancances i bona música!

Eliza Doolitte

El seu nom real és Eliza Sophie Caird  i va néixer a Westminster (Londres) el 15 d’abril de 1988.

La seva familia està farcida de d’artistes i músics: el seu pare és John Caird, director, escriptor i compositor  de teatre, musicals i òperes. La seva mare, i la seva tieta Frances i Alison Ruffelle són destacades actrius i cantants de teatre musical. És per això que Eliza de petita sempre havia desitjat ser artista.

De molt joveneta, al principi de la seva carrera feia concerts amb el seu grup per diversos instituts d’Anglaterra. També va començar a  gravar algunes cançons. Una d’elles Runnig for Life es va incloure en la banda sonora de la película AdULTHOOD. També va  participar en una cançó benèfica per ajudar a Haití i finalment l’any 2010 va aconseguir editar el que és, de moment,  el seu primer i únic disc.

Pack Up

Es tracta d’un dels temes més populars del disc de debut anomenat simplement Eliza Doolitte. Es va editar el 5 de juliol de 2010. Alguns crítics musicals van qualificar la cançó com un xic estrafolària però també com  una cançó pop, estiuenca  i encantadora. De fet en alguns països com Irlanda o Anglaterra, la cançó va gaudir de força èxit  i va entrar en les llistes del Top ten.  La lletra parla de ser un mateix; proposa empaquetar els problemes i enviar-los a les profunditats del mar, no fer cas de la gent que critica per criticar i  en definitiva, no et deixen ser com ets.   Aquesta setmana és una proposta de l’Alba V. de 6è. Whitney Elizabeth Houston va néixer Newark (EUA) el 9 d’agost de 1963 i va morir el passat dissabte, 11 de febrer de 2012 a Beverly Hills (EUA), per causes encara desconegudes.
Va ser una cantant de Rhythm and Blues, pop i gospel, pianista i actriu. Whitney es va convertir en una de les cantants més populars i famoses durant la dècada dels 80 i la dècada dels 90. Tenia una veu prodigiosa, única i una gran habilitat i sensibilitat per cantar.
Ha estat la dona que ha rebut més premis de tots els temps, segons el Guinness World Records. Va rebre sis premis Grammy, diversos American Music Awards, Billboard Music Awards, dos Emmys, un MTV Video Music Award i un MTV Movie Award.

El tema es va publicar l’any 1987 en el disc anomenat Whitney. Els compositors de la cançó van ser George Merrill i Shannon Rubicam del grup Boy Meets Girl. Ells ja havien composat anteriorment l’èxit nº1 How will I Know també per a Houston. Aquesta setmana la proposta ha estat meva, per retre un petit homenatge a aquesta gran veu que ens ha deixat, a l’edat de 48 anys, de manera tan sobtada. Espero que us agradi!

Elton  John

El seu nom real és Reginald Kenneth Dwight i va néixer a Londres el 25 de març de 1947.
Als 11 anys  entrà a estudiar a la Royal Academy of Music gràcies a una beca.

Abandonà els estudis al  cap de 6 anys per dedicarse a la  música pop.
A partir de 1964 començà a col.laborar amb grups locals com Bluesology, on coneguè al cantant Long John Baldry.

Com a homenatge a ell i al saxofonista Elton Dean adoptà el nom artístic d’ Elton John. Als anys 70 es consagrà com una autèntica estrella;

Començà a actuar en grans concerts multitudinaris  amb extravagants disfresses i complements característics del glam rock.

Ha tingut  també etapes més moderades com quan participà en la banda sonora de el Rey León premiada amb un Grammy i un Òscar.

Actualment amb 64 anys d’edat i més de 40 de carrera musical, Elton John ha venut més de  250 milions de discs i uns 150 milions de singles i s’ha convertit per mèrit propi en un dels millors músics de tots els temps.

Daniel

A finals de la dècada de 1960, Elton va conéixer al lletrista i poeta Bernie Taupin.

Junts obtingueren molts èxits, un d’ells aquest tema Daniel editat l’any 1973 inclòs a l’àlbum Don’t shoot me I’m only the Piano player (No hem dispareu, només sóc qui toca el piano).

La lletra de Taupin està inspirada en la història d’un soldat veterà de la guerra de Vietnam  que ha quedat cec per culpa dels combats i torna finalment a casa.  Aquesta setmana és una proposta de la Cristina, tutora de 5è.
