Ben E. King

Benjamin Earl King
També conegut com a Ben E. King,(Henderson, 28 de setembre de 1938 – Ciutat de Nova York, 30 d’abril de 2015)[3] fou un cantant de soul i rhythm and blues estatunidenc. Es coneix principalment per ser el co-compositor de “Stand by Me”—a la posició 25 de la llista de “Cançons del Segle” de la RIAA— i com a un dels cantants principals del grup vocal de R&B the Drifters.

És una cançó de l’any 1961 interpretada per Ben E. King i composta per ell mateix, Jerry Leiber i Mike Stoller. La cançó va ser adaptada a partir d’un tema gospel. En un principi quan la van composar, no tenien intenció d’enregistrar-la però al cap d’un any ho van fer. Ha estat una de les cançons més versionades del segle XX, un dels que la va gravar va ser Jonh Lennon l’any 1974.
