Grup de música eurodance i disco creat pel productor Frank Farian el 1975. Estava format per quatre artistes de les Antilles que treballaven a Europa. Les cantants Marcia Barret i Liz Mitchell, la model Maizie Williams i l’ex DJ Bobby Farell. El seu primer gran èxit va ser a Alemanya amb el tema Daddy Cool l’estiu de 1976. Amb els anys es van convertir en un dels grups més coneguts de tot el món, incloent Àfrica i Àsia. Juntament amb “ABBA” van ser el grup europeu més internacional. El 1986 amb 9 àlbums editats i 150 milions de discs venuts el grup desapareix. De tant en tant s’han reunit per aparèixer a la TV i recordar els seus èxits més populars.

Rivers of Babylon

El tema pertany realment a un grup de Jamaica anomenat “The melodians”. La lletra està basada parcialment en el salm 137 de la Biblia. La cançó es va convertir en el segon major èxit de vendes a Anglaterra l’any 1978. Va ser editada com a single de “doble cara A” amb el tema Brown Girl in the Ring. El músic català Quimi Portet ha versionat recentment aquesta cançó al català i ho ha fet amb molt sentit l’humor. Música amb molta marxa per cantar i ballar per Carnestoltes!
