In our English classes, we have also been working on the project of the little chicks! First and second graders have been learning some vocabulary in English related to this topic, such as egg, chick, birth, humidity, incubator, fodder, water, box, light, feathers, wings, beak and crest, and colored images and drawings of little chicks and live in the farm.
The children were very excited when the chicks were born and they took care of them very conscious that the little birds were very delicate. After a few weeks in class, we had to say bye to them and let them go with other chicken in a bigger space. It was quite hard for all of us to separate from them but we understand that it is the best way and the best decision.
To end with the activities in this project, during the English lessons, we worked a song called “The Chicks” and it says like this…
The chicks
The Chicks like to go cheep, cheep, cheep
When they’re feeling hungry,
And when they’re feeling cold.
The hen goes out looking for wheat and corn
She gives them food to eat
And also keeps them warm.
Under her two wings
The chicks are very cozy,
Until the next morning
The chicks will sleep with mommy.
