CLIL was initiated in Lithuania in 2002 by the Ministry of Education and Science. The British Council joined the project in 2004 and contributed three teacher-training events for the project participants. The first was organized on 17–18 November 2004 for 70 teachers from 35 schools participating in the project. The participants were both subject and language teachers, most schools were represented by one subject teacher and one language (English, German or French) teacher. Some of them were already involved in integrated teaching while others were interested in starting integrated subject and content teaching. The next event was the CLIL forum, held on 1–3 December 2005 with 49 teachers from 16 schools participating in the project. It was followed by visits to schools in Kaunas and Šiauliai, 24-28 April 2006. The visits included filming of the lessons and workshops on CLIL to groups of teachers from the regions.
