CHRISTMAS

| The first Christmas tree came to Britain when Queen Victoria’s husband – Prince Albert – brought this German tradition. He and the Queen had a Christmas tree at Windsor Castle in 1.841. A few years after, nearly every house in Britain had one.
Traditionally people decorate their trees onChristmas Eve. You can eat roast turkey and Christmas pudding in the most important dinner on Christmas Day. An older tradition is Christmas mistletoe. Before Christmas, groups of singers go from house to house. They collect money and sing traditional Christmas songs or carols.

Christmas Pudding Recipe

Ingredients
Making and cooking it
Always wash your hands before preparing food.
Mix all the dry ingredients together.
Beat the eggs and the milk until frothy then stir into the dried ingredients until thoroughly mixed. Allow to stand in a cool place (not the fridge) for 12 hours.
Put mixture into pudding basins and cover with a layer of folded greaseproof paper. Tie with string.
Cook, covered in a water bath, for 3 hours. Keep 4-5cm (1-2in) simmering water in the pan at all times. If using a pressure cooker, cook for 1 1/4 hours.
Allow to cool and store in a cool, dark place.
Before serving, steam for an hour in a saucepan (or for 30mins in a pressure cooker).
Christmas Crackers

They are basically a party favor, a small cylindrical cardboard tube, wrapped in festive paper and filled with a small prize, a paper hat and usually an awful joke. There is a long, thin piece of paper that runs through the cracker that, when broken, produces a loud snapping sound, or “crack”-hence the name. The idea is that you hold one end and offer the other to someone else at the table and then proceed to play a mini “tug-of-war” with each other, until the cracker “cracks” in two. They are loved by children and adults alike and are always the first part of the traditional Christmas dinner every year.
