In 1939 he went to live to France because of the Spanish Civil War.
In 1955 he went to Puerto Rico
In 1958 he did his first concert in the United Nations.
In 1971 he made a peace hymn for the United Nations.
He died in Puerto Rico in 1973.

In 1965 he worked as an economist.
He was elected Mayor of Barcelona in 1982.
He was president of the Council of Municipalities and Regions of Europe from 1991 to 1997.
IN PRESENT DAY
From 2003 to 2006 he was President of the Generalitat of Catalonia.
He is considered the most important Catalan politician of the second half of the XX century.
He has been president of the Sociallist Party from 2000 to 2007.

He was the artistic director of Theatre Lliure, between 1992 and 1998.
His latest films has been “Los abrazos rotos” in 2009.

He died in Mallorca in 1983.
