Life of Pi

Why don’t you have a look at the book itself? The beginning of the story is so interesting that you want to read more. Did he get into the boat? Did the tiger notice? Did the tiger eventually eat him? Or did Pi eat the tiger?

You can read about it here

TV and languages

Sitting comfortably on my sofa and thanks to a satellite dish, I can watch TV channels in the following languages:

  • English (6 channels)
  • German (more than 30 channels!!)
  • French (4 or 5 channels)
  • Arabic (1 channel)
  • Italian (2 or 3 channels, can’t remember exactly)
  • Dutch (3 channels)
  • Catalan (1 channel)
  • Spanish (1 or two channels)
  • Gallician (1 channel)
  • Basque (1 channel)
  • Welsh (1 channel)

There probably are some more that I don’t remember. If I want to expand this offer, I only have to use my internet connection, I can watch channels from all over the world.

However, if I lived in Alacant, I wouldn’t be able to watch TV3 Mutis

Science for 16 year-old Finnish students

Teacher's TV, what else! After the controversy of some recent research about education in Catalonia, here’s a 15 minute-long video on how Finish schools do science. We should not forget that the PISA report gives Finland the first position in the teaching of science. The video is in English and, unfortunately for some, it does not include subtitles.

What’s the matter with the irregular verbs?

After marking the irregular verbs exams, the results show that many of the students didn’t even bother to study them. It really shocks me as a teacher because:

  • The irregular verbs are the most frequently used verbs in English. If you study them, you will be able to understand a higher percentage of texts.
  • The irregular verbs are studied from 2nd grade of ESO, and by 3rd grade of ESO all the curriculum includes 90% of the irregular verbs. Some students though had their first contact with these verbs as early as Primary School!
  • It does not involve understanding. It only involves memory. A student with very bad English marks can have a 10 if he/she studies hard
