The Spanish elections in British media
The ‘crib’ or chuleta
The students of 3rd ESO A decided they wanted to use a crib. So here is the size of the crib:
5 cm long x 4 cm high.
No more, no less.
Irregular verbs exams…
… because of the ‘portes obertes’ I haven’t had time to write 4 new exams, so just use the exams that I gave you before Christmas.
Practice your listening skills
Try this little game where you have a text but you can’t see the words. Click on the first word to listen to the short story and then write the words that you hear. It’s a very simple game, but it’s hard to understand absolutely everything. Will you take up the challenge?

Reported speech
Here are some of exercises on English reported speech:
- Super-easy level: change the tense of the verbs 1 and 2 (you must be able to do this if you want to understand reported speech in English).
- Easy level: afirmative statements.
- Easy level: commands1 and commands 2 (very easy, just add ‘to’ and the infinitive of the original sentences. I don’t think there are exceptions here)
- Intermediate level: afirmative statements with expressions of time (today = yesterday; this year = last year; yesterday = the day before; now = then…)
- Intermediate level: questions (be careful with word order, it’s always subject + verb + object + rest of the sentence!
) and this mixed exercise. - Master level: questions and expressions of time together.
Tea rap activity
Here’s a link to the lyrics of the song. Try and see if you can find something they said that you can comment on:
- They said that they are not allowed to carry guns or they said that they were not allowed to carry guns (and now they can).

End of term tests
Instead of having the test of Unit 6, there will be a test based on the listening part of the PAU tests. If you want to practice this type of exam, you can see some older exams here. As you can imagine, the date of the exam is not altered, only the content.

Saturday’s APAC sessions
Ja una mica cansat d’ agafar el tren per aixecar-me aviat i tornar a l’ hora de ficar-me al llit, el dissabte decideixo ser insostenible i m’ enfilo cap a Barcelona a sobre de la meva lleial i infatigable Leonardo 250cc.
- Vuitena sessió: el portugués Veríssimo Toste ens parla de com fer atractiva la lectura als nostres alumnes i de com trencar el cercle viciós que fa que no trobin cap plaer en la lectura. Proposa que siguin els alumnes mateixos qui decideixin les preguntes de l’ examen i que es tractin els llibres com llibres, i no com una excusa per fer vocabulari o gramàtica. A més a més, ens ofereix la pàgina de BritLit, on podem escollir entre 30 textos amb idees per tractar-los a classe. Els professors assistents sortim amb uns quants dubtes sobre l’ efectivitat del que fem a l’ aula amb les nostres lectures.
- Novena sessió: una de les més pocs relacionades amb el tema de l’ anglès, però per això menys interessant. Anne Dwyer, qui ja havia participat en alguna edició anterior de la convenció de l’ APAC, parla de les diferències generacionals dels nostres alumnes, la nostra o la dels nostres pares i avis. Arriba a la conclusió de què són molt diferents, i que o bé ens hi adaptem nosaltres o bé ells mai ho faran. Entre les seves idees, com no, aprofitar al màxim els ordinadors a l’ aula (?) i oferir-los apunts directament per via informàtica.
- Desena i última sessió. Ja cansat arriba la darrera conferència, aquesta vegada sobre l’ ús de la informàtica a l’ aula. Moltes idees, però només aplicables el moment en què el finançament de la Conselleria d’ Educació ens permeti tenir ordinador a classe.
I finalment cap a casa, això sí, amb una carpeta plena d’ apunts, idees i referències a materials que vull llegir. A part d’ això, el bon record de trobar-me amb antics companys de feina, facultat i oposicions. Dilluns… tornada a les aules.
