School routines

Llegeix, copia i tradueix punt per punt aquest text sobre un noi anomenat Dan i la seva escola King’s Manor Secondary School.

1. My name is Dan, and I go to King’s Manor Secondary School in London.

2. There are five classes every day. We start at half past eight and finish at three o’clock.

3. We study science with Mr Andrews, our class tutor. We study other subjects, for example, English, maths and music.

4. My favourite subjects are very exciting. They are P.E., art and history. I think they are very interesting subjects.

5. When we finish school, I do homework every day for about half an hour.

6. I eat my lunch in the school canteen. The food isn’t great!! Today it’s pasta and chicken, mmmm… I like it very much!

7. Some days, I eat a sandwich and there are machines, if you want drinks, crisps or chocolate.

8. The rules here are strict and sometimes the head teacher excludes a bad student for two days or more.

9. The uniform is obligatory, but I think it’s ok, except the blue and yellow tie!

10. I go to school by bus because I live far from the school.

oral activity: reading aloud

Find a text that you want to share with the rest of the class, contextualize it (say where it belongs to, who its author was) and explain why you find it interesting. Then read it aloud for one minute. This is your oral activity for the second term. When you are done, post a short summary of your experience on the blog.

Your text may be a newspaper article, a poem, a song, a novel, a review, a personal letter, a biography… whatever will do as long as it is in English.

Cinema: Gran Torino

These days we have been watching the film Gran Torino. It’s an interesting film that deals with many universal topics. It’s the story of an old man and his Hmong neighbours in a town in the American Midwest.

Which topics are shown in the movie? Think about the film and give your opinions.
