La música rock, o Rock (o Rock and roll, segons alguns) és un estil musical que evolucionà a partir del Blues. El nom rock avui en dia s’aplica a molts altres estils, en particular quan un grup de música porta una o més guitarres elèctriques, una bateria, solistes vocals i, molt freqüentment, un baix elèctric.
La música rock o només rock és un gènere musical contemporani encaminat a englobar cadascun dels diversos gèneres musicals derivats del rock and roll. Sol interpretar-se, entre altres molts instruments que ocasionalment s’addicionen, amb guitarra elèctrica, bateria i baix elèctric. Molts estils de música rock també empren instruments de teclat com l’orgue, el piano o els sintetitzadors. La música rock normalment té un fort contratemps, i sovint se centra en la guitarra, tant elèctrica com acústica.
Les 100 millors cançons de la història del Rock
Un sondeig, elaborat pel canal de música nord-americana VH1, ha presentat les 100 millors cançons de la història del rock.
“Satisfaction” dels Rolling Stones ha estat la vencedora, mentre que els Beatles, amb nou cançons, és el grup musical del que més temes es troben en aquest ránking.

INFORMACIÓ
La cançó dels Rolling Stones “Satisfaction” va ser seleccionada com el millor tema mai interpretat en la història del rock, segons un sondeig realitzat a Nova York. El sondeig, que va abastar els 100 millors temes de rock, va ser realitzat pel canal musical de cable *VH1 entre 700 persones vinculades a la indústria de la música a Estats Units. Entre els músics que van votar van figurar Bono, del grup O2, Johnny Cash, Art Garfunkel, Bonnie Raitt, Lou Reed i Curtis Mayfield.
Els Beatles van estar representats en la llista pel major nombre de temes d’un mateix intèrpret o grup d’intèrprets: nou cançons. La primera d’elles, “*Hey *Jude” va quedar en novè lloc.
En la llista apareixen cinc corts dels Stones i quatre d’Elvis Presley i Led Zeppelin respectivament. Bob Dylan va estar representat amb tres, a més de la seva composició “All Along the Watchtower”, que els enquestats van preferir en la veu de Jimi Hendrix.
El tema més antic de la llista és “Rock Around the*Clock” de Bill Haley i els seus Comets, publicat en 1955, i el més recent va ser “Smells Like Teen*Spirit”, del grup Nirvana, publicat en 1991. L’únic tema netament llatí que figura en la llista és “La Bamba”, en interpretació de *Ritchie *Valens, que ocupa el número 98.
