Fairies

Perhaps you think of Pinocchio‘s Blue Fairy, the Good Witch of the West from The Wizard of Oz, or Peter Pan’s Tinkerbell when you imagine a fairy. But in fact, fairies don’t like to be seen by people at all.

1. In pairs prepare a fact file on some different types of fairies.

2. Add some pictures.

3. Present your results to the class.

The upper berth

“It was something ghostly, horrible beyond words, and it moved in my grip. It was like the body of a man long drowned, and yet it moved, and had the strength of ten men living; but I gripped it with all my might -the slippery, oozy, horrible thing- the dead white eyes seemed to stare at me out of the dusk; the putrid odour of rank sea-water was about it, and its shiny hair hung in foul curls over its dead face. I wrestled with the dead thing; it thrusted itself upon me and forced me back and nearly broke my arms;it wound its corpse’s arms about my neck, the living death, and overpowered me,so that I, at last, cried aloud and fell, and left my hold”.

Monty Phyton Argument Clinic

BATXILLERAT

  3. Finalització del temps i nova discussió
  4. Acudit final

(1) Fill in the gaps
Man: Is this the right room for an argument?

Mr Vibrating: I’ve told you once
Man: No, you …………
Mr Vibrating: Yes, I …………
Man: When?
Mr Vibrating: Just now!
Man: No, you …………..
Mr Vibrating: Yes, you …………
Man: ………..
Mr Vibrating: ………..
Man: ………..
Mr Vibrating: I’m telling you I did
Man: You did not

Mr Vibrating: I’m sorry, is this a five minute argument, or the full half hour?
Man: Oh…Just a five-minute one.

(2) What’s the doctor’s strategy?
Man: I came here for a good argument
Mr Vibrating: No, you came here for AN argument
Man: Well, an argument is not the same as contradiction
Mr Vibrating: It can be.
Man: No it can’t.

(3) Why is the punch-line funny?
Mr Vibrating: That’s it. Good morning!
Man: I was just getting interested.
Mr Vibrating: Sorry. The five minutes is up.
Man: That was never five minutes just now!
Mr Vibrating: I’m afraid it was.
Man: No it wasn’t.
Mr Vibrating: I’m sorry, I’m not allowed to argue any more

(4) Why is this last part even funnier?
Mr Vibrating: Well I’m very sorry but you didn’t pay.
Man: Aha! Well if I didn’t pay, why are you arguing … got you!
Mr Vibrating: No, you haven’t
Man: Yes I have … if you’re arguing I must have paid.
Mr Vibrating: Not necessarily. I could be arguing in my spare time.
Man: I’ve had enough of this.
Mr Vibrating:No, you haven’t
Man:Oh shut up!!
