Last fall I went on vacation. We arrived to New Cork at twenty after seven o’clock pm. It was cold and we took the subway because we wanted to go to the theater, which was in the city center. We walked along the sidewalk for a few minutes and visited several stores because we needed a pair of pants. My kids went into a toy store and bought a toy truck, which had a blond truck driver. I didn’t like the color. Then we paid for the check. We also bought some candy and some cookies. We took a cab back to the hotel, the cab driver was an Englishman. We got up late the following morning. We hired a car and stopped at a gas station. The gasman was very kind. We traveled for about 25 minutes and stopped at a bookstore. We threw some paper to the garbage can, because lots of trash collectors were working at this time. One of them said to us that he had been on gaol for two years, and his son was now at grade 6 at school and liked billfolds with pure leather, where he put his allowance. We arrived to the hotel, turned on the taps and went into the tub.
A trip to London
Last week I drove to London by car. As there was an accident on the M25 I had to take a detour. I stopped in front of a theater to ask for directions. A young man told me to turn right at the intersection and ask again at the gas station. There a friendly sales clerk told me to take the second exit of the traffic circle. After I had passed a pedestrian crossing I saw a bookstore and a large parking lot. I parked my car there and walked to the center of London.
A busy day
Mrs Fisher was very busy today. She drove to a butchers’ shop for some ham. Then she went to the supermarket to get some powdered sugar and mashed potatoes She needed diapers for her baby and some clothespins. Then her daughter Sally saw the candy store and Mrs Fisher bought her some cotton candy . At home she put everything into the closet. Then she opened the faucet, filled water into a pot and put it on the stove

He came to Lisbon in the fall of 1995. The car had to stop because of a flat tire. Shouldn’t we take the tram? The people went to a sledge race in Alaska. His sister attends the primary school in our town. The air hostess is very nice, isn’t she? Jim is our new neighbor. Should we really put the bottles into the boot of the car? Andy and Tom, would you read the dialog, please? I think, I’ll change Mary’s nappy. It was 1/10/2010, 1st October in British English, but January 10th in American English. We went by car and didn’t take the airplane.
British and American English Differences
The difference between American English and British English is bigger than “You say Tomayto, I say Tomahto.” The difference can be found in vocabulary, slang, sentence structure, syllabic emphasis, and even punctuation. As a speaker of American English (I have found a few contrasts between the speech of the chaps and the speech of the blokes.
My sister and I went to Scotland and realized we had lost our traveling things. The lady at the info desk said there were two ladies in grey jumpers who were asking about us. There we found our two “grey-jumpered” grandmothers!
It wasn’t until my second week in Edinburg that I could finally get the courage to ask for the “toilet” (blushing) but it was the only way they would direct me to the restroom. Occasionally they would point me to the first floor. I would make my way down to the ground floor.
British biscuits are the American equivalent of sweet and cream-filled cookies. Children in England are highly educated. Rather than just taking a math class, they take maths class. Other phrases include queueing instead of standing in line and looking for the Way Out instead of the Exit.
