50 Years Without Agatha Christie (12 January 1976)

On 12 January 1976, the world lost one of its most beloved and influential writers: Agatha Christie. This year marks the 50th anniversary of her death, an important moment to remember an author whose stories continue to fascinate readers of all ages and levels.
Agatha Christie is often called “the Queen of Crime”, and for good reason. She wrote 66 detective novels, more than 150 short stories, and created some of the most famous fictional detectives of all time, including Hercule Poirot and Miss Marple. Her books have been translated into over 100 languages and have sold more than two billion copies worldwide, making her one of the best-selling authors in history.
What makes Christie’s stories so popular is not only the mystery, but also the clear writing, memorable characters, and clever plots. Readers are invited to observe carefully, follow clues, and try to solve the crime before the detective does. This makes her books especially enjoyable, and accessible, for English learners.
To celebrate this anniversary, we invite you to explore the Agatha Christie collection in our school library, which includes novels at different reading levels and even a graphic novel. Whether you are discovering her work for the first time or returning to a classic, there is something for everyone.
