Welcome to class

Hi everybody,

My name is Anna and I will be teaching Intermediate level during this academic year. You are most welcome to use the activities on this blog which I hope you  find useful and interesting.

This is the first post I’m sending you to talk about a site to improve your listening, reading, vocabulary and pronunciation skills.  I’m talking about  Read the Words, a free website where you can paste your texts and listen to them.

read the words

You only need to create an account for free, find a text you want to read and cut and paste it into the Read the words website.

You can actually listen to the text you have just read, so you can hear what it sounds like.

Have a nice summer holiday!

Classes are over and the exam results came out today. This is the end of another academic year and I wish all of you a happy summer.

Do you feel like singing? Do you remember ‘Grease’ and the song ‘Summer loving’? It always reminds me of summertime. Enjoy!

See you in September.

Trip to Liverpool

As you know, the English Department has organized a trip to Liverpool this year. Although Liverpool is already world-famous thanks to The Beatles and Liverpool football club, this is a special year for the city since it has been designated Europe’s Capital of Culture .
Sit back in your chair and let me take you on a virtual trip around the city.

This excellent film was shot by Johannes Fabry, the son of a close friend of mine. I hope you enjoy it.

Practising English at the restaurant

Hi everybody,

Last Wednesday we had a wonderful time at the restaurant. It was a great opportunity to speak English outside the classroom and meet students from the other class. We had some warming-up activities before dinner and spent the evening speaking English.

The teacher brought her camera but the batteries went dead, ha,ha,ha (she should check next time, don’t you think?) . Fortunately, Laura had also brought her camera and took these photos. Thank you Laura.

It was very rewarding to hear you speak Engish. Thank you very much. It was a lovely evening.

April’s Fool Day

Hello everybody!

Last Tuesday, it was April’s Fool Day, a day when people usually play tricks on friends and strangers alike. It is similar to our celebration on December 28th, the day of the Holy Innocents. If you want to know more about this celebration and the reason why it takes place on April 1st, click here and read the story provided by the British Council. There is also a Reading Comprehension test and further reading and writing.
