Earth is the only planet in our solar system with water. However, the amount of water we have to use is limited. Even though water covers most of the planet, people can drink less than 1 % of that water. The rest is saltwater or frozen glaciers.
Cities and countries share the small amount of water that is available because water moves across borders to connect the more than 7.5 billion people who live on Earth. This means that the way each of us treats water matters. The pollution we create localy impacts on our water security and the water security of our neighbours near and far.
In unit 4, we will examine global issues, such as marine debris and climate change, in our local communities. We will also research local actions can improve and protect the global water supply. What can you do to make a difference? How can you get members of your community involved?
