APPLES!!!

In this project (Our Restaurant) we make a lot of experiments!

The last one is about apples, now we are tasters and we taste a lot of differens varieties of apples:

Golden Delicious,Royal Gala, Granny Smith ,Fuji,…

It has been very funny tasting the different apples!

The 3rd of June, the students of 1rst ESO in the Project class, went to the laboratory and we did some experiments: one of them is called “Recognise the aromas”.  We have to smell the differents aromas and recognise them.

We had to identify: Garlic, Cinnamon, Basic, Salt, Pepper, Rudder, Rosemary, Oregano and Anise.

There are more smells than tastes. When we smell something we might  remember easily some special day or when we did something, like when we smell marine brise, it will record us the sea. So, the smells are more connected to the memory than the tastes.

It is very easy! You only have to do this:

Our irregular object is a potato

·Take a beaker and put water inside, up to the top.

·Then take a dish and put it under the beaker.

·Now put the irregular object in the beaker.The irregular object displaces the water. Water spills on the dish.

·Fill up the syringe with all the  water on the dish. Take a measurement on the scale of the syringe.

·That’s the volume of the potato.

And that’s all!

In this project we study the difference between mass, volume, weight and density.

-Mass is the amount of matter contained in an object and it doesn’t change depending on the gravitational pull.

-Volume is the amount of space an object takes up.

-Density is the equal of mass per volume

-Weight is the force of gravity on an object’s mass.

An object’s weight depends on its location in the universe. However, the object’s mass remains the same anywhere in the universe.

In this project we studied the kitchen equipment and we have compared with the lab equipment tools.
For example:

For heating we use microwave, oven or a cooker in the kitchen but in the lab we use a bunsen burner.

For holding liquids, we use a teapot, a bowl or a jar and in the lab there are test tubes, graduated cylinders, beakers…

For strirring a mix we use a spoon or a whisc in the kitchen and a stirring cod in the laboratory.

We have started a new project in english: it is called “Our restaurant”. In this project we  have to create a restaurant with our group, so first of all, we have to learn a lot of things!

We now that in about 6 weeks the famous French gourmet, Mr. François Papillon, will come to our school for our restaurant opening.

Monsieur Papillon is a well known gourmet. He writes for the prestigious magazine “La bonne cuisine”.
Will we be able to convince him that our restaurant is the best and to win La Fourchette d’Or 2014!!
