Syllabus
EXPECTATIONS:
1. COME PREPARED to class everyday with:
– a spiral graph paper notebook,
– textbook (Math Visions Project, an eBook copy can be found at http://www.mathematicsvisionproject.org/secondary-mathematics-i1.html)
– a scientific calculator
– a protractor and a compass (during Modules 6 and 7)
– glue, a ruler, colored pencils, PENS (black or blue for warm-ups and notes, red ONLY for corrections) and PENCILS.
2. CELL PHONES and other electronic devices must be turned off and stored in backpack, which must be placed on the rack under the seat (not on desk or lap). Phones or other devices seen or heard in class, ON OR OFF, will be confiscated. No warnings.
3. FOOD OR DRINK must be put away before class begins, or it will be taken away. Clear water in clear bottles only will be allowed. Gum chewing will not be allowed.
4. SHS DRESS CODE will be STRICTLY enforced. Please refer to the guidelines in the student handbook and the class poster. Students who are not dressed in adherence to the school-wide code will be sent to the office immediately to rectify their clothing before returning to class.
5. PAY ATTENTION and WORK only on the assignments and activities as directed by the teacher. Chatting with classmates disturbs others and detracts from our goal, and therefore will not be allowed. Personal grooming (applying make-up, brushing hair) will not be allowed.
6. ATTENDANCE and HOMEWORK: attendance is the most important factor toward success in school. Please make EVERY EFFORT to come to school every day. Students are expected to make up work missed when absent. They should see the teacher upon returning to get missed assignments, including warm-ups. Students will be given one day for every day missed to make up work. Before, not during or after, the final bell rings students are to enter the room, turn in all assigned homework, sit in their assigned seat and begin the warm-up activity. Any homework turned in after the tardy bell is considered late and will receive no full credit. Late work will have points deducted as decided by the teacher, depending on the assignment. Students will only be allowed to make up homework if they have no missing assingments within the last week.
GRADING:
The grading will go as follows:
90-100%=A
80-89%=B
70-79%=C
60-69%=D
Under 60%=F
Grades include:
Work (homework and classwork, including notebook): 30%
Assessments (quizzes, tests and projects): 70%
TEST MAKE-UPS will be available for students with no missing assignments. In order to be able to retake a test, a practice test will have to be previously completed.
EXTRA CREDIT may be available throughout the year for students who are caught up on all their work. It is not a substitute for required assigned work or tests and will not be available to students at the end of the semester as a final attempt to raise their grades.
