Unit 18: Papers and magazines

In this unit we will learn how to make suggestions. Here you have the PPT.

FINAL TASK

You have to write a review for a section of the school magazine which is called “Things you shouldn’t miss”. To do so follow the steps:

1- Think about a book, a play or film that you liked and you want to recommend to your school mates.

2- Read the reviews on the Prepare Students’ book on pages 108 and 109, to see some examples of what you need to do.

3- Plan the writing. Organize your ideas, select making suggestions expressions and connectors. (See the powerpoint of the unit).

4- Write your review in a work document and choose a suitable picture for it, then hand it over to me attaching the document to the task.

5-Copy the text in the following Padlet (you also have the link in the task documents) and attach a photo, video, etc. You can also look at the things your classmates recommend to you.

Childhood picture

In this picture, you can see my brother and me some years ago. My brother is Xavier, he is 21 years old now, but in the picture, he was 2 years old. I was 6 years old in the picture. As you can see we were next to the Tió because we have just found it in the forest. We were sitting in the yard from the house we have in a small village called Rojals which is near Montblanc. I was very happy because it was Christmas time and I didn’t go to school so I had more time to be with my family and play with my brother. I also was nervous because the Tió was there so I had to behave if I wanted presents from him and also from the Three Wise Men.

REMEMBER! Use these sources carefully, don’t copy and paste all the text. You are not learning and I notice it easily.

3- At the end of the class, send me the document you have been working on attached to my email: minsa6@xtec.cat

Let’s become journalists! – Session 4

1- Sit in your groups and think about what do you want to write about, that is the topic and the story. To help you thinking, here you have some questions that will guide you.

When did it happen?
Where did it happen?
What was happening before the event?
Who were the people involved?
What were people doing?
What happened?
How did it begin?
What was happening during the event? - People's reaction
How did it end?
What was happening after?

2- Now, once you have thought the story, make a list of the different events and put them in chronological order.

3- Start to write the news report, with the help of the previous list. Remember that you have to combine the present simple and continuous and try to use as much text markers as possible.

4- Here you have a rubric that will guide you in your writing task. It is what we will use to evaluate the news report.
