CASTANYADA
Castanyada is a popular party in some areas of northem Spain such as Catalonia. It is also a very popular party in Portugal, where it is called magusto. The common elements of this celebration are the celebration in the month of November and the main elements are chestnut and fire. With this feast the chestnut tree recovers the importance that the corn and the potato snatched to him in the last centuries. It consists of a meal in which people eat chestnuts, panallets, sweet potato …. The drink of this festivity is moscatell, a sweet wine. The women who cook chestnuts are in the streets selling them, they are called ‘’CASTANYERES’’.
HALLOWEEN
Halloween is the one of the oldest celebrations in the world. People celebrate it on the 31st of October in English speaking countries. For exemple The USA, The UK and Ireland among others.
Around the world, days are shorter and nights are colder. People start the season with wearing costumes and eating sweets. Besides, there´s the desire to decorate in a unique way that will make houses and costumes look scary.
One of the traditions of Halloween is to make Jack o´Lantern with eccentric faces. People take a pumpkin and carve sacary faces on it in order to be sacry. This tradition comes from the fact that Jack’s soul stayed wandering in the earth.
