TABLE TENNIS AT THE COMMONWEALTH OLYMPIC GAMES

Table Tennis is one of the optional Commonwealth Games sports. It has been on the program since 2002.
Table Tennis made its first appearance at the Commonwealth Games in 2002
The Table Tennis competition has eight medals on offer in the men’s and women’s singles, doubles and team events.
In 2014, Singapore was the winner country. They won all the other editions.
Table tennis is an indoor game (based on tennis) that is played with small bats and a ball. This is bounced on a table which is divided by a net. The ball must only bounce once on each player’s side of the table before they have to return it to the place opposite side. Singles, Doubles and Team events take place.

Gymnastics at the CommonWealth Olympics Games

 

Gymnastics is one of the sports at the CommonWealth Olympics Games. It was on the program in 1978 and in all Games since 1990.

Gymnastics events are split into two groups:

-> Artistic,which includes Floor, Pommel Horse, Rings, Vault, Parallel Bars, Horizontal Bar, Uneven Bars and Balance Beam.

-> Rhythmic, which includes Hoop, Ball, Clubs and Ribbon. Only female athletes compete in rhytmic events.

  • In 2014 the CommonWealth Olympic Games were in Scotland and the winners were England.
  • This year is the ninth edition and the XXI games. The Host Country in 2018 is Australia and we don’t know the winners yet.

Trevor was born in England, he is 14 years old. His hobbies are listening to Pop music and reading adventure books. He likes dogs.

Michael was born in Scotland, he is 14 years old. His hobbies are playing football and meeting  with his friends. He likes Bachata.

 

FRANKLIN

 

Franklin was born in England, he is 15 years old. His hobbies are dancing  Hip-Hop and play football.

John was born in Ireland, he is 15 years old. His hobbies are playing computer games and read terror books.

Commonwealth games vs Olympic games

There are many differences between the Commonwealth games and Olympics games. For example:

Commonwealth Olymics Games


The Commonwealth Games is an international multi-sport event.

The event was first held in 1930, and has taken place every four years, in which athletes from countries that form the commonwalth participate. Over 5,000 athletes compete at the Commonwealth Games in more than 15 different sports and more than 250 events.

Only six teams have attended every Commonwealth Games: Australia, Canada, England, New Zealand, Scotland and Wales. Inter-Empire Championships they started the olympic games but after an time was formed the Commonwealth Olympic Games.

In the Commonwealth Games they celebrated with music, theatre, circus, dance, ideas, visual arts and film from the Gold Coast.

The Festival of 2018 begins from 4-15 April to celebrate in Gold Coast what celebrated in Australia.

Borobi is the pets of Commonwealth Games Australia. Is a koala.

SQUASH at the Commonwealth Olympic Games

Squash at the Commonwealth

Squash is one of the sports at the quadrennial Commonwealth Games competition. It has been a Sport since 1998. It is a core sport and must be included in the sporting programme of each edition of the Games. Is a racquet sport played in a four-walled court with a small, hollow rubber ball. The players take it turns to hit the ball with their racquet into the walls of the court. There are events for men and women in singles, doubles and mixed doubles.

Participants

In 2014 there participed theses countries Australia, Bermuda, Botswana, British Virgin Islands, Canada, Cayman Islands, England, Gibraltar, Guernsey, Guyana, India, Jamaica, Jersey, Kenya, Lesotho, Malaysia, Malta, Mauritius, Norfolk Island, Northern Ireland, New Zealand, Papua New Guinea, Seychelles, Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, Scotland, Sri Lanka, Trinidad and Tobago, Uganda and Zambia.

Winners

The winner of these games in  single’s men was Nick Matthew in the single’s woman  was Nicol David in double’s man were Cameron Pilley and David Palmer in double’s woman were Rachael Grinham and David Palmer.

The hosts and the best countries

The host city was Glasgow and the country was Scotland the best nation was Australia

NETBALL AND RUGBY SEVENS AT THE COMMONWEALTH GAMES

NETBALL

Netball has been participating for twenty years in the Commonwealth Games since 1998. In Netball, the team has seven players and goals are scored by throwing. Players have specifics positions on the team and they can only move to certain areas.

In 2014, the host country was Scotland, and Australia won the Netball medals.

RUGBY SEVENS

Rugby Sevens is played with seven players on each team. An oval ball is kicked, carried or passed from player to player, like American Rugby. Points are scored grounding the ball behind goal line. Players can also kick the ball between the two posts. Each game only lasts 14 minutes.

In 2014, the host country was Scotland, and South Africa won the Rugby Sevens medals.

Swimming at the Commonwealth Olympic Games 2018

Swimming

  • Swimming is one of the core Commonwealth Games sports, and has been on every Games program since the first in 1930 (the others are Boxing and Athletics). Swimming is an extremely popular recreational and competitive sport within the Commonwealth, and is always one of the highlights of the Commonwealth Games program.

History

  • Swimming is among the oldest sports on the Commonwealth Games program. It has been contested at every Games since the first in 1930.

Competition

  • The competition includes events for men and women over 50m, 100m and 200m in Freestyle, Backstroke, Breaststroke and Butterfly. There is also a 400m Freestyle for both men and women, 800m (women) and 1500m men) Freestyle events. The 200m and 400m Individual Medley and the 4x100m and 4x200m Freestyle and 4x100m Medley Relay events are also held.

Trivia

  • At the 1994 Games, Australian Keiran Perkins set two world records (800m and 1,500m Freestyle) both in the 1,500m race.
  • Out of the 40 swimming events contested at the Manchester Games in 2002, Australia won a staggering 27 gold medals – nearly three quarters of the medals available! Australia’s swimming performance was led by Ian Thorpe, winning three gold and one silver.
  • In the 2014 the winner of the swimming at the commonwealth games was Australia.

SHOOTING AT THE COMMONWEALTH OLYMPIC GAMES 2018

Shooting at the Commonwealth

Shooting brings together accuracy, speed and consistency in a sport where the medal winners are those that can handle pressure the best.

There are four Shooting disciplines on the GC2018 program – Fullbore, Pistol, Rifle and Shotgun.

The countries that participated in 2014 were:

1 Australia  (Winner), England, India, Singapore, Cyprus, New Zeland, Scotland, Canada,Bangladesh,South Africa and Wales, Malasya

 

A number of different events take place in the shooting category:

  • Clay Target, where athletes fire at moving targets flying in differents directions,
  • Full Bore, in which competitors fire at targets across a range of distances,
  • Pistols and Small Bore, in which athletes fire at stationary targets across distances ranging from 10 to 50 metres

BIOGRAPHY
·My name is Nerea Parés I’m 25 years old and my artistic name is Candela. I am from Canada but I live in Barcelona. I have a degree in Fine Arts. I play the piano since I was 13 years old.

·My name is Nerea Muñoz too, I’m 19 years old and my artistic name is Selena. I am from Barcelona and I live here. I have been singing since I was 9 years old.

·My name is Carla Donaire, I’m 22 years old and my artist name is CarleDEA. I am from Florida but I live in Barcelona. I have a degree in Music teacher. I play the guitar since I was 6 years old.

INTERVIEW
When did you start playing together in the band?
We started the group in 2016.
Why is your new album called “WHEN I SEE YOU”?
Because it is the first song that we wrote and it is very important.
Why is your group called “THE CIELAS”?
Because our mothers called us like that.
What is your music style?
We like pop and we listen to pop since we were very small and this is the type of music that we like singing.
What is your inspiration to write the songs?
Our youth, because we spent our best moments together and we sing about this.
Are you planning to make a concert here, in Spain?
Yes! Next year we will start a tour around Spain. And in 2020 around the world.
