Telling the time

In 5th level we have been revising how to tell the time.

time

We have been practising with analog and digital clocks.

But if it isn’t clear yet, you can watch this video, where the Smufs teach it very well:

Now, if you are already an expert, you can play either of these two games:

I’m an animal!

Today 3rd grade has done a presentation about an animal. They had to say what animal they were (a fish, a tiger, a lion, a gorilla, a crocodile, a whale, a leopard or a zebra); where they lived (in a jungle, in a grassland or in the sea); and what those animals have got and haven’t got.

During these presentations we learnt that:

  • Fish haven’t got arms, but fins.
  • Whales have got a hole on their head.
  • Tigers have got big teeth.
  • Crocodiles have got a long tail.
  • Gorillas haven’t got a small body, but a big one.

Here you can see some pictures of their presentations:

Has Li got a kitten?

In 2nd level we have learnt that the animals which can stay at home with us are called pets. They can be bought or adopted from a pet shop.lis-cage

The cut-out of this unit consisted in making a cage to put our pet, but in this case it was either Jay’s pet or Li’s pet. We played a game where we had to ask our partner questions:

  • Has she got a turtle? (referring to Li)
  • Has he got a puppy? (referring to Jay)

And our partner would answer:

  • Yes, she has or No, she hasn’t.
  • Yes, he has or No, he hasn’t.

The gingerbread man

gingercraftIn 1st grade we have told The Gingerbread Man story, which is a perfect story to go into the parts of the body. From this story, the children elaborated a Gingerbread Man and practice with it the different parts of the body: head, eyes, ears, nose, mouth, body, arms, hands, fingers and legs. As you can see, they really enjoyed it:

Here I leave you a video with another version of the Gingerbread Man story. We hope you like it; the students enjoyed the part in which the Gingerbread Man repeats: “Run, run as fast as you can. You can’t catch me! I’m the Gingerbread Man!”

This last week we commented the things we could do at home, and specially, in our bedrooms, from which the students have done an oral presentation this morning.

In their bedrooms they can…

  • play darts
  • play with a ball
  • play tennis
  • do their homework
  • play with toys and teddy bears
  • study
  • dance

Countries

During this unit, 5th grade have learnt different aspects about some countries: France, India, China, the UK, Argentina, the USA… Some of the aspects were the colours of their flags, their size, the weather, the traditional food and where they are situated in our Earth.

Last week each student chose a country and looked for information about it on the computer; and this week they have done the presentation. We learnt many different things, for example:

  • The USA is a very large country.
  • Andorra is just in the north of Catalonia.
  • One of the typical dishes in Sweden are the Swedish meatballs.
  • In India it’s hot in summer and warm in winter.
  • Spain is in Europe.
  • Korea’s flag is blue, red, white and black.
  • One of the most typical food in Catalonia is bread with tomato and olive oil.
  • Pakistan belongs to the Asian continent.

Art illusions

In 6th grade we have gone over several paintings and their artists, so we decided to do a presentation about one of them. Students were given three paintings to choose from:

paintings-1

The one by Maurits Cornelis Escher was the most successful, since everybody decided to talk about it in their presentation. For that reason, we searched some more works by him and discovered that our eyes trick us. Some students said that the pictures were badly placed, so we turned them upside down, to the left, to the right… but there was no way to see them properly!

Do you like these kind of images which contain optical illusions?

Welcome back!

Welcome back!

A new course has begun and although we already know each other, the very first days were a little bit special. We had to open ourselves to the rest of the class and talk about us. That’s what we did: we introduced ourselves in different ways.

1st grade students made a beautiful star where they wrote their names and ages, and after presenting it, they took it home.

2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th and 6th grade students filled in a sheet writing things about them and after present it in front of their classmates, we hung it on the English corner.

Here you can see some of them:

CHRISTMAS TIME

Hello, the end of the first term is already here. This afternoon children will go home and in two days they’ll kick “el Tió”.
For next year we wrote a lot of wishes with the students. It was quite difficult not to write material wishes, but finally we could write a huge amount of them.
It was surprising that some of the students thought about terrorist attacks, bombs and wars around the world. Other students thought about all the students having food and health. The most difficult ones were the wishes related to good feelings, as happiness, joyness, sadness…
Children are quite used to match Christmas to material things, and we had different opinions about what is really worth to wish.
When I asked what was the question students felt as the most important one in their life, all of them answered: FAMILY!
So, from the English Corner we only must wish you a good time with your family, and that you enjoy all the moments that you can share with the people you love, and have a good present from Santa, Tió, or Reis.

HAVE A HAPPY NEW YEAR 2016!
