Descubren un nuevo número primo

From BBC Mundo, 29/9/2008

1)  Why are prime numbers so important?

2) Who was Mersenne?

3) Why is it so difficult to find big prime numbers?

    1) Because them are some things that mathemathicians haven’t discovered.
He was a very important person for maths.
    3) Because there are fews.

  2. Albert València López

They ar so inportant in maths, becausethey are the base and the basic elements of maths ( and because if you find a big one you can win a lot of money).
Mersenne was a french mathematician of the XVII century, he started to write a very long list of prime numbers. He was born in Oize and he studiet in a jesuit school called le mans.
It’s difficult to find big prime numbers because there are few, and when numbers start becoming bigger it’s easyer to find divisors ( and if prime numbers were easy to find there wouldn’t be a big economical prize, of course !)

    1) Because they are in the basic elements of maths, without them we would have to do more operations and they help us very much for the mathematical calculation.

2)Mersenne was french mathematician of the XVI century, and he did a list of the prime numbers. He was a theologian, philosopher, mathematician and music theorist, often referred to as the “father of acoustics”. He was born on September 8 of 1588, and he die on September 1 of 1648.

3)They are difficult to find because there are few prime numbers and how more big is the number you have to calculate, between 0 and the long number, all the possible options to say that the number is prime, and if the number is big there are more options than if it is smaller.

  4. Marc Rodríguez Reus

    1) Prime numbers are so imporatant because numbers are formed basically by the prime numbers and they are an important piece of maths. Then, we can do the operations more quickly and easyly.
    2) Theologian, philosopher and French scientist born in Oizé (Sarthe) in 1588 and died in Paris in 1648. Monk of the order of the minimums (mendicant Franciscans), gathered about itself|himself|herself a group of mathematicians and physicists who were the origin of the future French Academy of the Sciences. Although its|his|her|their thought was not marked precisely by the originality, a character in a historical way significant was personal friend of Descarts and translator of Galileo. It|He|She accepted the mechanism as mitjà|medi to fight against the magic and the naturalism of the Renaissance, and it|he|she insisted on the limits of the human knowledge in order to safeguard the religious truths against the snares of the reason. Among its|his|her|their works they highlight: Quaestiones celeberrimae (1623), The impiété you give déistes (162), The vérité you give sciences contre him sceptiques egg pyrrhoniens (1625), L’harmonie univeselle (1636).
    3) It’s difficult to find big prime numbers because they are few and it’s easier to find one that is smaller than one that is bigger, for example, a prime number with 30 milion of digits, like in the new, it’s very difficult to find. I think that they stay days and months trying to find another prime number until they find one.

  5. Joana

1)The numbers are important because thin are the only numbers that can divide itself and 1. Are also important because we do not know how far they go and when digits might have.

2)Marin Mersenne was a seventeenth century French philosopher who studied various fields of theology, mathematics and music theory.

    3)
It is difficult to find prime numbers as the last thing many digits was found, besides there are infinitely many primes.

    a) Prime numbers, are one of the most important elements in maths, and they are very duficoult to find. I’ve found something that has liked me, here you have it:

Think about counting numbers. You can never find the biggest number. Every time you have a big number, you can always count to a higher number. Prime numbers are like this. Many years ago, Euclid proved that there are an unlimited number of primes. No one can find the biggest prime number. There is always a bigger prime number than the biggest one known. ( for me this is like a twister, it’s easy but difficoult to know at the same time).

    b) MErsennes was a filosopher,he is remembered mainly through the numbers that bear his name: Mersenne primes. Mersenne into his Cognitata Physical mathematica in 1641, where they speculated on some properties, some of which could only be proved or disproved and in the twentieth century. It is also true that he translated and commented the works of Euclid, Archimedes and other Greek mathematicians, and its most marked contribution to the advancement of knowledge was conducted through an extensive correspondence (of course in Latin) with mathematicians and other scientists from various countries .

c)They are very difficoult to find because thwy are not near them selves, we can find that the next number prime of nnnn( that it’s prime) has got milions of digits, and that’s so difficoult to prove and calculate

  7. Arantzazu Gimeno

    1) The prime numbers are important because they are the base of maths with this numbers we can have more clarifying ideas and more easy solutions. And this numbers are the most important, the most famous question that the mathematicians try to answer.
    2) Mersenne was an academic that many years ago was find long list of prime numbers and now this new prime number has his name because its a homenage for him.
    3) its difficult because they are a lot of numbers between the prime numbers, now we thing there are infint prime numbers and its difficult to try find more than now we now, because each number its longer than the other have before this and its more difficult to calculate a long number than a short number. Because a prime number only can divide by itself and by one. If we have a long number its difficult to proof that this number its only can divide by one and by itself.

  8. Paula Iglesias

    1) The prime numbers are important because are a natural number which has distinct natural number divisors: 1 and itself.
The study of prime numbers is an important part of the theory of infinite numbers and they are also a bit mysterious.

    2) Mersenne was a mathematician and a philosopher in the century XVII. That make a very big list of primes numbers.

    3) Is difficult to find a big prime number, because there are infinites and to obtain them is necessary to spend a lot of time.

  9. Genis morral

1)they’re important becausethey are the greatest mysterys on maths, they don’t have formula for be finded, and we don’t kow if they are infinite as the others sets, because i consider the prime numbers as a set.

2)Marin marsenne was a french filosophal, that was born the 1 of september. He was a filosopher at the XVIII century. He studied diversed camps of mathematics and of music theory.

3)It’s difficult because in lots of natural numbers there are some prime numbers and the operations that a computer has to do are of milions of digits and it’s large to do.

  10. Alex Montero Bou

    1) they are important because they only can be divided by 1 and itself and for this reason they give to you a more easy live in maths.

    2) Mersenne was a mathematician and a philosopher in the century XVII. That make a very big list of primes numbers

3)Because you have to divide a lot to found it…. i think that the person who found a very bigs prime number are very boring persons…. 🙂 And very insocial live… they are in one bedroom divide all the time i think that is one of a lot of thinks that is very boring.

  11. Xavier Augé

    1) They’re so important because nobody knows a formula to calculate it and they’re infinite. Is like the mistery of maths because nobody knows how to calculate it.

    2) Marin Mersenne was a French philosopher of the 17th century. He studied theology, mathematics and music theory. Mersenne is remembered today thanks to his association with the Mersenne primes. However, he was not primarily a mathematician; he wrote about music theory and other subjects. He edited works of Euclid, Apollonius, Archimedes, and other Greek mathematicians. But perhaps his most important contribution to the advance of learning was his extensive correspondence with mathematicians and other scientists in many countries. At a time when the scientific journal had not yet come into being, Mersenne was the center of a network for exchange of information.

    3) It’s very difficult because if there is no any formula we have to discover it doing by trying dividing by all the other numbers that are before that number.

  12. Andrea Isern Granados

    1) Because they are the base of mathematics. All the (not prime) numbers are formed by multiplying prime numbers.

2)Mersenne was a french mathematician of the XVII century, he started to write a very long list of prime numbers. He was born in Oize and he studiet in a jesuit school called le mans.

3)Because the bigger a number is, the easiest to being divided by another number is. So, there aren’t few big prime numbers because there are infinite prime numbers but the distance between a prime number and the next is every time grater, so they are more difficult to be find.

  13. Sara Vendrell

    1) Is very important because can only be divided by one and itself, and is one of the basic elements of maths.

    2) Mersenne was a French theologian, philosopher, mathematician and music theorist of the XVII century that he did a very ling list of prime numbers.

    3) It is necessary to have lots of computers that are working at the same time. It is also necessary many matematical calculations.

  14. Sergi Baulies

    1) Because they are the basic elements of maths and any people has discovered all the prime numbers. Because I suppose that they are infinite!!!

    2) Marin Mersenne, was a French theologian, philosopher, mathematician and music theorist. That she did a very long list of prime numbers and she could see that there are infinite prime numbers

    3) It is very difficult to find one prime number because they are few, because you have to divide a lot to found another prime number

  15. Oriol Carreras Arasa

1)Because there are infinit and ara intrigous and prime numbers help we to do some operations

2)Marin Mersenne was a French theologian, philosopher, mathematician and music theorist, often referred to as the “father of acoustics”.

3)I think that is not more difficult because with computer you prove that one number that have 500 milions of digits are prime number. I thik that is difficult but in one part is very easy.

  16. irene segarra

1Prime numbers are very important because this nubers are a basic elements.

2Marin Mersenne is a franch mathematician, he does a list of prime numbers

3It’s very difficult because the computer can’t do this bigger prime number

  17. Guillermo Ródenas

    1) Prime numbers are important because with them we can build any other number, whether it is big or small.

    2) Marin Mersenne was a great mathematician that worked a lot with prime numbers and edited lots of works of Euclid and Archimedes.

    3) Finding big prime numbers is difficult because each time there’s more distance between two primes and the primes we haven’t discovered are very very large numbers, because all the others are already discovered.
