CABRERA: “LAS MATEMÁTICAS SON TAN APASIONANTES COMO UNA FINAL DE BALONCESTO O UNA ASCENSIÓN EN BICICLETA”

Servimedia, 23/9/2008

I think that the Seleccio Espanyola of Mathematicians, is a group of the best mathematicians of Spain, who play a Olimpiada of mathematics with other countries.
I think that maths is a mental sports, not a physical sport.
In this article, there are some uses of maths, for example informatic, medicine ,engineering ,history and science.
Estalmat was created by the mathematician Miguel de Guzmán on 1998 in Madrid.
I know some people who went to the proof , but I don’t know if they make the Estalmat.

I don’t think that the math are the same that a basketball match because in basket the players created new estrategys and actions to win and in maths in impossible to create a new estrtegy because you have to follow some esteps. In the basket there are emotions and some feelings and in maths I think that there isn’t a lot of emotions of feelings

    1) I didn’t know that there was a “selecció espanyola” of mathematicians. I think that maths is logical exercises of the mind. Perhaps you can get good results with training. I don’t think that maths is a pysical sport.
    2) In this article I can find some uses of maths, for example, to estimulate the ability of the teenagers in different areeas of knowledge: computer science, engineering, medicine, history and science.
    3) EsTalMat was created by the matematician Miguel de Guzmán in 1998, in Madrid.
    4) I know some people who made the test, but I don’t know if they were selected to do EsTalMat.

    1. I didn’t know that there’s a selección española of Mathematicians, because I’m not interested on it. I think mathematics isn’t a phisical sport, if it’s a sport, it will be mental.

    2. The uses you can find are: informatics, science, engineering, medicine and history.

    3. EstalMat was created by a Spanish mathematician from Cartagena called Miguel de Guzmán in 1998.

    4. I know some people who did the test and Andea Isern, who passed the test. I think it’s great, and I think that if she passed is ‘cuz she is very intelligent.

    1) I knew there was a “selección española” of mathematics, and that also there are “olimpiades matemàtiques”, but don’t really consider math as a sport but as a way to make our brain stay in shape.

    2) In this article says something very interesting that we don’t usually think: math needs logic and if we do math, logic will also be improve for other things like science, history…

    3) EsTalMat was created by Miguel de Guzmán, in 1998, but he died five years ago.

    4) I and Andrea both participate in the same class of EsTalMat. I thing it’s not the convetional math. It’s some kind of logic math and in the two classes we have gone to, the three hours of learning have passed fast. Although I think that three hours is a lot of time for a Saturday morning!!

    1) I didn’t know that there was a “selecció espanyola” of mathemathicians and I don’t considerate so Maths as a sport.
2)You can find: things of science, history, medicine.
3)EsTalMat was created by Miguel de Guzmán, in 1998, but he died five years ago.
4)I know people that go to it: Andrea Isern o Guillermo Rodenas.

Now I thing that this phrase is not true because in my opinion the maths are boring (I know that the maths are very important by all the things that the normal and the strange people do) but I supose that when I’m 20 more or less I considerate that this phrase is true but at the moment I don’t think so.

    1. I didn’t know that there was a Selecció Espanyola of mathemathicians and I don’t considerate that Maths are a sport I prefer maths as a subject but imagin that one day I’m whit my family watching a Maths match…Is very strange :$

2.In this article I can find some uses of maths, for example, to estimulate the ability of the teenagers in different areeas of knowledge: computer science, engineering, medicine, history and science.

3.EsTalMat was created by the matematician Miguel de Guzmán in 1998, on Madrid, he died four years ago.

4.I know some people who made the test and pass it . For Example: Andrea Isern and Guillermo Rodenas. The true i s that i only know this people that pass the test.

    1. I didn’t know that there is a selecció espanyola of mathematicians.
For me, maths is not an sport because it is neither a physical activity nor a game with fixes rules such as chess

    2. Yes, in this article we can read that maths are usefull in computer science, engineering, medicine, history and social science

    3. Estalmat was created by the mathematician Miguel de Guzmán who died in 2004

    4. Yes, I know two people that are now in Estalmat. I think that it is a hard effort to assist to a class on a sunny Saturday

    I didn’t know that there’s a “selecció espanyola” of mathematicians. I think
that the maths isn’t a sport because you have to use the head and no the body.
You can find in this article some uses of maths, for example informatic, medicine ,engineering ,history and science.
Estalmat is created by D. Miguel de Guzmán Ozámiz on 1998 in Madrid.
I know two people who participated in this programme. They are Andrea and Guillermo. I think this is very interesting because maths are very important.

1)I knew that there was a Selección Espanyola of mathematicians and I know also that there are “olimpiades matemàtiques”.
I think that from a point of vew you can see the basketball, for example, as mathematics because “al fin y al cabo” the punctuation it’s a sum and a diference, a division, you have to go adding two by two…and in this way is maths but in another point of vew you can say that it isn’t maths it’s only run and trought the ball.

2)You can use it in to ways
    a) the computer science the engineering, medicine, history and social science
b)and for estimulate the logical part of the teens

3)Estalmat was created by Miguel de Guzmán but he died in 2004

4)I made the exam for enter in EsTalMat but I didn’t pass it, in any way I coudn’t go on Saturday mornings…I know that Andrea and Guillermo pass this test and now are doing it.
I think that it’s another way to see the maths, in the logical part of the maths, you have to bear in mind all tha dates that you have and then think a little bit, because the solution is in front of you.

  12. Aleix

I think that one final of basketball match is not the same that maths…

The maths is esencial for the live because one final of basketball match is of a diversion…

    1) I didn’t Know it, but last year maths teachers tell me that there were ”Estalmat”, an association of child that were good at maths and they practice them tigheter. And of course, his selection and maths are not an sport.

    2) Some uses of maths are informatica, inginery, medicine, history and social science. But we use maths every day for all the things in the life.

    3) Miguel De Guzmán created ”Estalmat” in 1998, but he died in 2004.

    4) I don’t know anyone that done it, but I think that it’s OK and important for the mathematics and the preparation of child. I think that it’s a great idea.

  14. Joana

1- Not that there was a selection of Spanish mathematics. I believe that mathematics is a tool for knowledge and logic. I believe that mathematics can be considered a sport, develop mental agility.

2- Yes, the project of “Estalmat” enhances the development of logical thought, and that applies to any discipline, Mercedes Cabrera said.

3- “Estalmat” began in 1998 at the Community of Madrid, its creator was the mathematician Michael de Guzman, who died in 2004.

4- I do not know anyone who participates in this project. I currently I am not able to participate, find it difficult for me.

  15. Arantzazu Gimeno

    1) Now i know but before read this no, maths its an sport but a mental sport, and its more necesari know maths than another kind of physic sport.

    2) Yes, in this arthicle i can find uses of maths Physic and Quimic, History or Geography, science… but i think that maths are used for all the things.

    3) Estelmat was created by Miguel de Guzmán at 1998 in Madrid.

    4) I don’t know anyone to have done it, but i thing that its a good idea for the people that like maths and would know more of these.

  16. Alex Montero Bou

I think that a final of basketball is the most interesting in all the finals in the all of the sports.
But i think too that is similar a final with maths because in a final yo have to think a lot to know what is the better opcion to put the ball into the basket, and maths yo have to find the best opcion to do the operation more easly.
    This is that i think.

I know that there are a Seleccio Espanyola of Mathematicians, that is formed by the best people of maths in Spain. I also know that there are Olimpiadas of maths. It can be interesting.
I’am disagree that a final of basketball is the same that maths. but they have a relation, ‘cause in a final of basketball, you have to thing about the strategy, and in maths you have to thing about the operatinon that you have to do.

    1) Did you know that there is a selecció espanyola of mathematicians? Is maths a sport?
I knew there was a ” selecció espanyola of mathematicians “, but I think it’s a good idea.
I believe that mathematics is the sport of the mind.

    2) In this article can you find some uses of maths?
Exact, Physical and Natural Sciences, Computer Science, Engineering and Medicine, History or Social Sciences

    3) Who created EsTalMat?
The creator is Miguel de Guzmán. he died in 2004

    4) Do you know someone who has done it? What do you think about it?
If I know people who have made the project Estalmat, and I think it’s a good idea to give an opportunity for children who are good at mathematics and who want to learn more.
