Writing

This year we are going to work different writings. Before you being writing please take into account the following points:

1. Step 1: Brainstorm for ideas

  • Write down all the ideas you can think of.
  • Don’t worry about whether the idea is relavant.
  • Don’t worry about the grammar or spelling.
  • You can’t write in your own language.

2. Organise your ideas

  • Decide which ideas to keep, and cross out the others.
  • Group similar ideas together.
  • Put the groups in order according to a writing plan.

3. Focus on language

  • Think of words and expressions you will need to work.

4. Write a first draft

  • Write in pencil. Leave wide margins for notes. Leave space between lines for additions and corrections.
  • Write quickly. Don’t worry about neatness or accuracy.
  • If you can’t think of a word in English, write it in your own language.
  • If you can’t spell a word, write it any way you can. Then check the word in a dictionary when you have finished.

5. Check your work

  • Check your work : content, language and organisation. You can look at your book on page 139 to have some ideas.

6. Write a final draft

  • When you are satisfied with your work type it on the computer.
  • Be sure to include all your corrections.
  • Leave a margin on the left and right hand sides.
  • Remember to leave space between lines for your teacher’s correction.
  • Make sure your paragraphs are clearly indicated.

UNIT 1: For and against essay

In unit 1 you have to write a for and against essay (book pages 16, 140 &142 and workbook on page 13). Below, we have included a table that can help you understand the connectors better. Moreover, there are three different webpages that you can use in case you want to practice more.

Another document that can be useful for you while writing is the following one where we explain how you can use the connectors:

In case you still have problems to understand how connectors work  why don’t you try to do the following exercises?

Good luck!. Please, get in touch with us if you have problems with them.
