OK, kids. First let’s do some revision and practice.

GAME

http://www.manythings.org/hmf/hm-verb.html

Let’s practise some writing. This is a simple game but you are playing against the timer.

This is quite difficult. Wanna try?

If you need, here you will find a lot of activities for extra practice.

Treball de síntesi

You have to carry out two activities in your Treball de Síntesi. One of them is to write about one of your outings. In order to practise a bit  before you actually write it, I have found these pictures.

ACTIVITY: Look at the following pictures. Imaging these are pictures of your visit. Describe what you did.

Devil's burning

What about this great celebration? What do you know? What can you do?

Sant Jordi – Saint George’s day

by Zelig http://www.flickr.com/photos/zeliq/5666055563/

Read the following article and answer these questions. Write your answer in EWC.

1- Where is Saint George’s day celebrated?

2- What gifts do you give to people on this day? When did this custom start?

3- Explain Saint George’s legend

4- What else do people celebrate on 23 April? Why was this date chosen?

Now we are going to write some poem for our school competition. Read the following:

What is a cinquain?

Adapted from http://www.abcteach.com/free/h/howto_cinquain.pdf

A cinquain poem has five lines. The word comes from the French cinq, which means five. Cinquains are similar to haiku in that the rules for writing them are based on syllables. However, we will work on an alternate version of the cinquain poem, often called a “word cinquain”. This cinquain is based on words, instead of syllables. “Word cinquains” have the following pattern:

Line 1 1 word

Line 2 2 words

Line 3 3 words

Line 4 4 words

Line 5 1 word

There are no specific rules about writing a cinquain other than that it must have five lines and the correct word count.

Here is an example taken from http://edhelper.com/ReadingComprehension_27_80.html

Tree
Sturdy, Tall
Climbing, swinging, playing
Fun among the branches
Maple

Go to the following site to read some more cinquains:

Now write your own poem

Food: countable and uncountable nouns

Let’s start: are the following nouns countable or uncountable

Countable and Uncountable Nouns , by grazdub@onet.eu
Find this and other countables – uncountables exercises in English Exercises .org

More practice

http://www.autoenglish.org/basic/gr.count.i.htm

Now click on the different parts of the pyramid and learn about food groups

A challenge: do you dare? Write all the letters of the alphabet and write the name of food for each letter. Find a photo so you can remember the word better.

Valentine’s day!

Sant Valentine’s Day: A Story

By Dieselbug2007

Now can you solve this logic riddle?

Finally, would you like to write a poem and give it to your best friend on Valentine’s Day? Well, here is an idea. You can use your friend’s name to write a poem about him/her. Read the following example:

CAROL

Crazy, creative cat-lover

Always late for school

Reading’s a passion and

Olives an aversion but I just

Love lying on the beach and lazing in the sun.

(Taken from the British Council LearnEnglish Kids Poetry Competition 2006)

By Collen Proppe

Now you try!!! You can make your own card and then write your poem in it.

Describing a friend

You have to write about your best friend for homework. Remember in class we read this description?

A good friend

My cousin’s name is Darren. He’s fourteen and he lives near me in Darlington.

Darren is a good friend. I like him because he’s funny. We sometimes disagree – he likes

hip hop, but I hate it.

I often go to Darren’s house. We sometimes watch TV together. I like going to the sports centre

with him. We play basketball and tennis.

(English Alive 1)

Here is another description:

My best friend’s name’s Maureen. She’s from Glasgow, in Scotland. She’s 14 years old and her birthday is in January. She’s not very tall. She’s got brown hair and blue eyes. She’s got two brothers but she hasn’t got a sister. Her brothers are ten and five years old. At home she has got a dog called Max.

Her favourite hobbies are going to the cinema with her friends and listening to music. Her favourite film is Starsky and Hutch, probably because Owen Wilson is her favourite actor. She’s is not very interested in football or other sports.

(adapted from Macmillan Secondary Course 2)

Now write about your best friend. If you have already done, try to improve your composition. You may create and include an avatar for your friend. Go to the following site:

http://avatarmaker.abi-station.com/index_en.shtml

See? This is my avatar.

When you have finished with your composition, please do this reading activities. Write you score under your composition.
