It’s Pancake Day !

In the UK (United Kingdom), Ireland, Australia … Pancake Day is also known asShrove Tuesday or Pancake Tuesday because it is the one day of the year when almost everyone eats a pancake.

In 2012 Pancake Day is on Tuesday  21st February.

Pancake Day always falls 47 days before  Easter Sunday.

An English pancake is a thin cake, made of flour, eggs, milk, butter, salt and sugar and fried in a pan. Then the pancake is rolled and some people add lemon juice or jam.

salt

People have pancake races. It is very fun !

 

Pancakes are eaten on this day because they contain fat, butter and eggs which were forbidden during Lent (period of abstinence).
