Científics en Acció

Avui, a l’hora de projectes hem realitzat una de les activitats que més ens agraden: Científics en acció. Així que hem anat cap al laboratori per observar els experiments que ens ha fet el Laureà. Consistien en obtenir diferents tipus d’energia de diferentes maneres, evidentment renovables. Per exemple, un d’ells s’ha basat en aconseguir energia cinètica, és a dir, fer girar unes aspes a travès d’un electroimant. Ha estat impressionant. Com aquest n’hem fet quatre més, però amb altres energies. Tots ens hem quedat molt sorpresos en veure les reaccions del experiments. Gairebé semblava màgia!

SAVE ENERGY

Last week we did an exercise that involves learning some things we can do to save electricity.

First, in groups, we went to two sites that are in Moodle, to find some rules that we could apply to not spend so much energy. Then we copyed some of them in the dossier. Some of these rules were:

  • Lights turned off when you’re not in room.
  • Turn down thermostat.
  • Don’t leave mobile phone charging all night.
  • Draught-proof leaky window frames.
  • Turn off the tap when you are brushing your teeth.
  • Use a full load in your washing machine.

Biomass

In this project we talked about Biomass. To understand this topic better, we did an activity. Teachers gave us incomplete texts (student 1- text, student 2- text) with incomplete questions about Biomass. Two members of each group of four did text 1 and the other two text 2. We did two groups, the students with text 1 with one of the two teachers and the students with text 2 with the other.  

Each group talked a little about that and wrote down the questions we needed to find the information missing. Then we went back to our usual group and we asked the questions to a partner who had the other text to complete our text.

This activity was useful to understand the topic better, to practice English asking questions and answers them…  It was a good experience!

WAVE ENERGY: DICTOGLOSS

In this project we have done a lot of interesting activities. One of that was when our teacher, Montse, read us a text about wave energy twice. After listening to her, individually we wrote it in the dossier and then we reproduced it to our group. It was difficult but fun!!! The text was this: “Waves are created by the wind blowing across the sea and by the gravitation force of the Moon. Wave power uses the energy of the wave to turn turbines that make electricity.” In conclusion, we like this type of listening activities, because these activities help us to remember the meaning of the things. WALL DICTATION

In the wall dictation, there is a text eritten on a paper. The paper is in a wall far from the classeroom. One member of the group has to run and read the text in the wall paper. Then he/she has to dictate the text that is on the wall, and the other members of the group have to write it on the paper .

SOLAR ENERGY

-Do you know that the photovoltaic solar energy is the source of energy  most developed today?

-No, what is photovoltaic solar energy?

-The solar energy is a renewable energy, it means that never ends, it comes from the sun.

-Tell me more about this energy.

-Okay, heat and light are captured and can be transformed into other energy, (electrical or thermal energy)

-And… What is solar energy captured with?

-It can be caught by photovoltaic cells, heliostats or thermal collectors.

ENERGY

In this project we learned what is energy: energy is the capacity of the matter to transfer heat or to do work and it is in everything.

How we learned? We watched a video that represents dragon khan and it explains that Potential energy depends on the height of an object and Kinetic depends on the speed of objects that are in movement, as more speed, more energy.

GREENHOUSE EFFECT

This is an activity that we did. First of all, our teachers showed us a video about, how is a greenhouse gas produced and how it is covering the Earth’s atmosphere like a blanket. Then they gave us some dialogues for memorizing and learning and after that for doing it with the video in the background, just like the original one.

We all knew that this was an opportunity for learning and for having some fun, because it’s not every day you get a chance for recording a video. The point is that it was very cool, and I liked the experience!

TREASURE HUNT

For this activitie we had to answer some questions about the diferent energys: wind, solar, biomass, hydro, geothermal. This exercise was usefull because we reviewed all that we had learned about energys. Moreover we have learned new information about this topic. For exemple: How big is a wind turbine or
which are the two countries that produce more hydroenergy to produce electricity.

Every persone of the grup copered and answered two energys each and the reasult was fantastic!
