Científics en acció: El Ludió o dimoniet de Descartes

The first thing we did in this project was the “científics en acció”. We made a very interesting experiment. It was about making float a test tube on the water of a bottle and, when you pressed the bottle with your hands, the test tube sinked! It was really fun to do. First, we filled a bottle with water. Then, we took some nails and wrapped them with sticky tape. Finally, we putted the nails into a test tube, closed it and introduced it into the bottle. And that’s all! It was nice to do and also very interesting!

Els bacteris són bons o dolents?

A classe vam fer un debat entre si els bacteris eren bons o dolents. Vam partir cada grup en dos i cada parella havia de defensar una opinió: si els bacteris eren beneficiosos o perjudicials per nosaltres. A favor dels bacteris bons, vam dir que hi ha molts bacteris que són fonamentals per a l’equilibri del medi natural i que possibiliten la descomposició de la matèria orgànica morta. També són beneficiosos per fer aliments, com el iogurt. Alguns bacteris bons viuen als nostres intestins i ens ajuden a digerir els aliments.

Per altra banda, també hi ha bacteris dolents que causen malalties com ara la tuberculosi, determinades pneumònies, la diftèria, el còlera…etc. Aquest bacteris s’anomenen patògens.

Al final, ens en vam adonar que els bacteris no són ni bons ni dolents, sinó que n’hi ha alguns de beneficiosos i d’altres de perjudicials.

EXAM

On Friday 10th of June we had an exam on the contents of this project. It was long but not very difficult. Our teachers asked us about everything that we had done in class and in different types of questions. For example, there was a question where you had to fill in the blanks talkind about types of solutions, there were some multiple choise questions, a table where you had to write things you mustn’t do in a kitchen, a true or false question about elements,etc.

It was a good exam to test what we have learnt in this project!

Mercators vs Peters

Mercators és va inventar el seu mapa al 1569 que complia la forma i els angles però distorsionava molt les àrees.                                                                                           Peters inventar el seu mapa al 1856 després del de Mercators. Aquest mapa representava les àrees perfectament, en canvi, no complia amb la forma real.

És més conegut el mapa de Mercators i s’utilitzava per navegació marítima ara, actualment en Google Maps s’utilitza aquest perquè és més fàcil de veure llocs més petits. El de Peters no serveix per navegar ni per calcular distàncies entre dos punts però és més solidari ja que no deforma els països del tercer món però no acaba de ser correcte. Ningun mapa pot ser correcte de moment.

EVENTUALLY ALL THINGS FALL INTO PLACE!!!

ExperimentThe other day we learnt what is the density and why is it important. To demonstrate it, teachers showed us a beautiful and interesting experiment.
First, we put oil, water and some syrup in a test tube. Immediately we could observe that the syrup went down, the oil up and the water stayed in the middle.
Then, teachers gave us different objects, such us candy, pasta, beans, raisins and a cork. Before putting the solids in the test tube, we made a hypothesis. Most people said that the objects that weigh more will go down.
Then, we put the solids one by one into the tube. The raisin, pasta and the beans stayed in the middle surrounded by water. The cork floated in the oil and the candy went down in the syrup.
We learnt that the objects that are more dense than water sink like the candy and the objects that are less dense float.

Salt

SALT

The salt (NaCl) is a pure substance.

It’s compesed of sodium(Na) and of cholrine(Cl).

The chlorine is a very toxic element that was used in the second mundial war. And the sodium is a soft, silvery-white metal.

When it’s dissolved in water the sodium is joined with the oxigen atom,

And the chlorine is joined with the two hidrogen atoms.

The metal atoms (Na) become positive ions (Na+) but the non-metal atoms (Cl) became negative ions (Cl).

There is attraction between these oppositely charged ions.

A NEW PROJECT

RESTAURANT foto x blogWe are starting a new project called: Our restaurant.
We have to design a restaurant with a menu, and all the thing that are in a restaurant.
When it’s finished, we are going to choose the best one and the winners, will win “La Fouchette d’Or”.
But first, before preparin the restaurant, we are going to learn some contents like classifications, definitions, identifications of chemistry found in the kitchen,…
We are also going to do some experiments with acids, food and bases. We’re also going to learn about density, mass, weight and volume.
It is going to be a really interesting project and we are going to have great fun!

Mass and Weight

MASS

  • It doesn’t depend on the gravity acting on the object.
  • The amount of matter an object contains.
  • It’s measured in grams or kilograms.

WEIGHT

  • It depends on the gravity acting on the object.
  • It’s the force of gravity on an object.
  • It’s measured in Newtons (N).

The confusion is because gravity is pretty much the same everywhere on Earth, we don’t notice a difference.

ORANGE EXPERIMENT

The last day we do an experiment we called, orange experiment.

It consists to put an orange into water and see if it floats.

First we put the orange into the water, we see that it floats, because of the skin of the orange, the skin of the orange have little bubbles that keep the air into.

Then we cut the skin of the orange, and we put it into the water. We can see that it sinks because it don’t have air.

PRESENTEM ELS PROTOCTISTS

En aquest projecte hem estudiat el regne dels protoctists i com que hi havia molt tema per aprendre ho vam fer d’una manera especial.

Cada grup s’ocupava d’aprendre una part i desprès ho haurien de explicar (no llegir) a la resta de la classe. Quan hi hagi un grup explicant la resta de grups han d’agafar apunts.

El meu grup explicava: Què són els protozous, com es nodreixen, com es relacionen i com es reprodueixen. Però altres grups explicaven: Els flagelats, els ciliats, els rizòpodes i els esporozous o Què són les algues, com es nodreixen, com es relacionen i com es reprodueixen, els diferents tipus d’algues i perquè les algues no són plantes.
