Project In Groups

IMG_20140925_132012

In a project group work is very important. If we don’t work in groups, the project does not work well. There are best results when working in groups.

Working in groups is more fun. It is easier to work in groups because all the people of the group can contribute ideas. Working in groups is faster.

In every group there are different forms to organize the work: For example, in my group every person does the work that is easier for him or her or that he or she likes, …

Last Tuesday, we reflected on the way we work in groups in class. We want to learn how to work in groups better.

Our Energy Company

PRESENTATIONS

On March 27 we had to present our group energy Company to the class and we voted the best Energy Company.

First, we had to introduce our company: name, logo, etc. Then, we had to describe the energy that we produced and why it was the best option and finally, we had to convince the Town Hall our energy was the best!

Each group presented a different energy: solar, hydropower, wind or geothermal energy. We chose the best location and we explained the advantages of our energy but also the ways we could improve the disadvantages.

To convince the Town Hall we gave them a leaflet and we presented the company orally with the help of a power point, a prezi or a digital poster.

All the groups did a good job! Here there are some of them!

A GOOD FILM FOR OUR PROJECT

Last monday all the 1st ESO students of Joan Oró went to the “Rambla” cinema to watch a film. It’s called “Energía 3D”. The film was about love, science and technology. Its language was catalan because we had to understand its message and enjoy it. This film was related with the project we are working (Sustainable Energy For Everybody). It was amazing because we saw it on 3D!!!

Plot:

Alex is in love with Maria and Maria is in love with Alex but they are very different. Maria likes to preserve  the Nature and wants to promote renewable energies. On the other hand, Alex likes motorbikes, he doesn’t take care of the environment and he doesn’t think what can occur in the future if we don’t do little and basically things for the nature. For example: “Turn off the light”, “Turn off the water tap when you are washing your theet”… The teenagers have some love problems that are frequent between them.

As Alex loves Maria, he changes his attitude and he gives a present to Maria to solve their loves problems: he takes lots of candles and he lights them instead of turning on the lights. Finally, Maria makes Alex to take care of the nature and think in the future.

I recommend a lot this film because you enjoy it and at the same time you learn!!! These are my favourite films!!!

REMEMBER: SAVE ENERGY!!!

Greenhouse Effect /Global Warming

This week we started talking about the Greenhouse effect.

índice

We learnt a lot of things about them. Iit is a natural process that occurs when the Sun rays re-in the Earth’s surface and they are trapped by some gases on theirway back out of the Earth. These gases are called greenhouse gases :

– Water vapour.BLOC PROJECTES VAPOR

-Carbon dioxide.    BLOC PROJECTES C02

-Methane.    BLOC DE PROJECTES METHANE

-Nitrous Oxide.  NITROUS

-Ozone.   OZON

When we burn fossil fuels we produce a lot of carbon dioxide and so the total amount of greenhouse gases increases; the warming of the Earth, because of that, is called Global Warming . Some of the most important consequences of the Global Warming are:

1-The melting of the ice layer in Greenland and the Antartic.

2-The sea level will rise.

A short summary:

GREENHOUSE GASES >>>>>GREENHOUSE EFFECTS>>>>>GLOBAL WARMING

Global Warming is the rise in temperature of the Earth’s atmosphere .

We have learned this lesson thanks to oral and group activities.

Our teacher asked us to make a solar oven with a milk box and a shoe box that could cook some Panninis. As you can see, our oven works.   🙂  ;_;

The process to create this type of oven is the following:

  1. First take the cover of the box and cut the same size as the milk box. Then lift the cover you just cut and wrap it with aluminum foil to reflect light inside the box.
  2. Then take the milk box and cut all the parts of the bands. The box has to be at the same level as the shoe box.
  3.  Fill the rest of the box with straw to keep the heat
  4.  Put a plastic cover on the top and cover completely.
  5.  Try cooking something

As you can see the heat from the sun enters the box, either naturally or reflected by the mirror or aluminum foil and the oven works!!!!!!

Our pizzas were delicious!!!!!!!!

Renewable and non-renewable energy sources

This week we started talking about renewable and non-renewable energy sources. We learnt a lot of things about them. Renewable energies are the energies that we will never run out of whereas non-renewable energies are limited on the Earth.

Now we know where fossil fuels come from and what are they. Do you know that fossil fuels and uranium are non-renewable energy sources?

And also we know all the renewable energy sources (wind energy, geothermal energy, solar energy…).

This week was a very fun week because we did a lot of different activities to learn; texts in pairs, dominos, treasure hunts, etc. My favourite one is the Running Dictation.

SUSTAINABLE ENERGY FOR EVERYBODY

Last Tuesday, we began a new project. Its name is  Sustainable energy for everybody. In this projecte each group is a company that produces electricity and we have to sell it to Lleida. Each group pproduces electricity from a different source so we have to know the advantatges and disadvantages of each type of energy, how much power Lleida needs, where to set the power station and above all how we can respect Nature and not pollute.

In this project we are going to learn different things: what energy is, types of energies, the laws of the energy, energy sources, non renewable energy sources, renewable energy sources, how electricity is produced and more things.

We hope we enjoy this project a lot!
