This project has been created to work on the pupils’ identity and diversity. Through their boxes of life, the 5th level students showed briefly which are their origins, who they are and who they want to be in the future.

They had to bring 3 or 4 objects to put into their boxes:

• A family picture.
• Something typical from their countries (for immigrant families).
• An object which is important for them for a special reason.
• Something which represents what they want to be in the future.

Once they had their boxes ready, we put everything in common within the class, using Catalan and/or Spanish so that they could feel confident about their explanations.

The next step was using a very simple guide to translate the texts into English. We did it in the English class and then they had 2 weeks to “study” their texts. 

After that, we recorded them one by one, talking and showing the objects in front of the camera and we uploaded the videos in Youtube.

The final stage of the project was a video interchange with a French school in Brest which had also followed these steps.

It’s been a very emotive project which has engaged and motivated pupils to talk about themselves, use English and know about the others. We’ll surely repeat it with other classes and levels!
