An afternoon of collage!!

Tuesday afternoon was spent making musical collages. The children were allowed to use magazines, newspapers, paint, stickers and coloured paper to create their collage. They took their time and were very careful when constructing their collage. I will post some of the pictures when ready.

History of music

The children took part in a competition today about the history of  music. The children listened to 15 songs from the 1920’s up to the modern day. They had to think about when the song was released and then place it along a timeline. The children scored points by guessing the correct decade in which the song was released. Here are some of the children with their favourite song from today.

Silence is golden!

On Friday the children listened and watched a performance of John Cage’s four minutes and 33 seconds. The children discussed and questioned this piece of music and the idea of improvised music in general. Later on in the day the children performed their own version of the song and recorded their own pieces of improvised music. It was a very interesting experiment into the idea of what music is.

What is in the mail?

The children have made an excellent effort today with writing a postcard in English. The postcard will explain what the children have been doing since their arrival on Sunday at Mas LLop. I was very happy with the level of written English shown by the children and they will all make for very interesting reading when they arrive at your homes.

Emotions!!

Today in the class we have been working on how listening to music can affect our emotions. The children listened to some songs and then decided how that song made them feel. Some of the results were very surprising which made for some very interesting discussions.
