Educate the Heart

Look at this wordle. It was created from the words of a quotation by Aristotle. “Educating” and “the” are larger than the other words because they are repeated in the sentence. In pairs, create a sentence from it. The sentence starts with the word “educating”.

This is Aristotle’s quote.

Discuss:

  • How do we educate the mind?
  • Can you give examples of educating the mind?
  • How can we educate the heart?
  • Can you give examples of educating the heart?
  • Do we educate the mind and the heart in our educational system?

This wordle was created using words from the transcript of a video you are going to watch later. Divide the words into the following categories: verbs, nouns, and adjectives.

You are going to watch a short video about educating the heart without sound. Imagine what the script to the video is with the words above.

Now compare your script to the original one.

  • Did you like the video?
  • How did the video make you feel?
  • Do you agree with message of the video?

The video is beautifully narrated by author and poet Shane Koyczan. At home, watch this interview with him in which he answers the following questions:

1. What does “educating the heart” mean to you?

2. How can we “educate the heart”?

3. Who educated your heart?

Answer the following questions in a comment here.

BTX2 Oral presentation Term 3

As you know, Ms. Tammy Trevor, a teacher from Edmonton (Alberta, Canada) is visiting us from March 25th to April 1st.

In groups of 3-4, you will prepare a presentation on some aspect of the Catalan culture (puntes de coixí) and cuisine. Also, a presentation on Barcelona heritage can be a good idea. Each team has to decide on a different topic.

Remember to include bibliography, webgraphy and to use images labeled for reuse.

Do not copy paste from the Internet. Use your own words.

Do not fill your slides with too much text, just facts and figures and key words.

Attention to pronunciation and fluency. Be sure to have inflection in your voice so that you engage listeners. You can rehearse as much as you need.

Don’t forget to include a table of contents at the beginning.

Think about questions on the same topic to ask Tammy, so that you can interact with her.
