2018 Christmas ads

So, here we are again! Christmas is round the corner and it’s already a tradition that I share with you really nice Christmas ads.

So, let’s get started!

Have a look at these 5 photos:

Find as many connections as you can between the images. For example,
football matches and concerts often take place in a stadium.

There’s something that connects all five photos. What do you think it is?

Are you ready to watch Elton John performing one of his most famous songs on a British music programme?

Tell your partner which words you understood.

Work together to complete the gaps in the lyrics.

Watch again and check.

This song has been used in 2018 John Lewis ad. Have a look at the ad images and tell the story represented by these images in the order you think is best.

Let’s watch the ad so you can check your answers:

Can you come up with a slogan for the ad?

What do you think of the advert? Did you like it? Which do you think has been the reaction in the UK?

Ellie Goulding’s version of Your Song was used in the 2010 John Lewis Christmas advert. Which do you prefer?

John Lewis & Partners is a chain of high-end department stores operating throughout the United Kingdom.

“Since 2007 John Lewis has become known for producing memorable Christmas television adverts, which have gained heavy exposure on social media. The adverts, which typically rely on emotional content, have become something of an annual tradition in the UK and the music used in the campaigns has reached high positions in the UK Singles Chart.” (wikipedia)

It’s Christmas morning and you’ve just had a phone call from a friend whose Christmas Day plans have fallen through. You’ve invited this friend to your house and they’re arriving in an hour. You’ve realised that you don’t have a present for them. You don’t want them to feel left out while everyone is opening their presents, so you run to the 24-hour shop and find only five things left on the shelves.

Why is the chosen gift the best one for your friend?

[Thanks to All at C for sharing]
