Thanksgiving Day is a national holiday celebrated primarily in the United States and Canada as a day of giving thanks for the blessing of the harvest of the preceding year. It is celebrated on the fourth Thursday of November in the United States and on the second Monday of October in Canada.
In the United States, certain kinds of food are traditionally served at Thanksgiving meals. Firstly, baked or roasted turkey is usually the featured item on any Thanksgiving feast table (so much so that Thanksgiving is sometimes referred to as “Turkey Day”). Stuffing, mashed potatoes with gravy, sweet potatoes, cranberry sauce, sweet corn, various fall vegetables (mainly various kinds of squashes), and pumpkin pie are commonly associated with Thanksgiving dinner.

El dia d’acció de gràcies és una festivitat anual per agrair (tradicionament a Déu) la collita de la temporada. Als Estats Units se celebra el quart dijous de novembre. Al Canadà se celebra el segon dilluns d’octubre.
La majoria de persones als Estats Units celebren aquesta festa amb reunions familiars a casa on preparen un banquet. En moltes cases és comuna oferir una oració de gràcies. El plat principal tradicional per al sopar és un gran gall dindi rostit o fornejat. Aquest gall d’indi tradicionalment va acompanyat amb un farciment fet de pa de blat de moro i sàlvia. Se serveix tradicionalment amb una gelea o salsa de nabius vermells. A més solen servir plats de verdures com les mongeta tendra, el Moniato i el puré de patata amb gravy, que és una salsa feta del suc del gall dindi, també sol servir una gran varietat de postres, sent el pastís de carbassa el més popular.
