SUPERSIZE ME

MORGAN SPURLOCK estava mirant un programa sobre menjar ràpid a la televisió quan se li va ocórrer una idea. Un representant de McDonalds deia que el seu menjar era nutritiu i saludable. Morgan hi estava en desacord, i va decidir fer un experiment. Va decidir menjar en restaurants de menjar ràpid cada dia, tres cops al dia, durant trenta dies.

Al començament de l’experiment, Morgan va visitar tres metges, qui comprobaren el seu pes i la seva salut. Morgan era energètic, ple de salut i feliç. Aleshores, va començar la seva dieta (de menjar ràpid). Al principi no es trobava massa malament, però aviat va començar a tenir mals de cap i mals d’estòmac.

Normalment en Morgan no acostumava a menjar massa amburgueses, però de sobte n’estava menjant constantment i es trovaba malament; no estava menjant suficent fruita ni verdura, i estava menjant massa grassa. Una amburguesa i patates fregides amb una coca-cola gran donen prou energia per a caminar set milles, però en Morgan no feia res d’exercici.

Després de vint-i-un dies, els metges d’en Morgan estaven força preocupats perque  hi havia massa grassa i sucre en la dieta de menjar ràpid. Segons ells, l’experiment era perillós i irresponsable, però en Morgan va continuar. Al final dels trenta dies d’experiment, es trobava malaltís, cansat i amb sobrepes, i havia augmentat onze kilos de pes.

Mentres en Morgan estava fent la dieta de menjar ràpid, va fer un documental sobre la seva experiència, anomenat SUPERSIZE ME, Engreixa’m. Quan la pel.lícula es va fer famosa, alguns restaurants de menjar ràpid van canviar els seus menus. Diuen que ara el seu menjar és saludable, però en Morgan prefereix menjar a casa.

Oliver Twist: Chapter 3

70 miles to London

SUMMARY

After leaving Mr Sowerberry’s Shop, Oliver sat down on a milestone because he was tired. He decided to go to London where Mr Bumble couldn’t find him. In a few days he was cold and hungry. He met a strange boy called Dodger  after walking for seven days. Dodger wanted to help Oliver and they left to London together. Dodger took him to Fagin’s old house. Oliver ate some sausages and fell asleep. While Oliver was sleeping, old Fagin opened a box full of jewels and watches.

VOCABULARY

Film: The Day After Tomorrow (desdoblament)

 The Day After Tomorrow

The Day After Tomorrow is a film full of special-effects looking at what the world would look like if the greenhouse effect and global warming continued in such a way that they resulted in worldwide catastrophe and disaster. The movie includes a good number of hurricanes, tornadoes, floods and the beginning of the next Ice Age

PLOT

The story begins with a scientist who is studying how the weather changed in the past. There is professor Jack Hall, who is to save the world from the effects of global warming and also tries to rescue his son Sam who is trapped in New York. Jack must go from Washington D.C. to New York, but on the way some things happen. Can Jack rescue his son?

After watching the film in class download the project for this activity and do a DVD cover for a film. Read the instructions carefully and make your imagination fly. Let’s become Steven Spielberg!

British weather

The sunny Spain!, the British use to say. Here you have the first portfolio activity for unit 2.

What was the weather like in…: yesterday, last summer or last Monday? You decide the place. Write a minimum of 10 sentences about the weather. Have a look at the following examples:

Oliver Twist: Chapter 2

Oliver at Mr Sowerberry’s

SUMMARY

Oliver is sent to work in a shop. He works for Mr Sowerberry. The first night Oliver slept in a room full of coffins. He was afraid and all alone in a strange place. He had no friends.

The next day he met a boy called Noah, who became his enemy. Mr Sowerberry gave Oliver a special black hat and dark jacket. Oliver became a mourner at many funerals.

One day he hit Noah and Noah told everyone that he tried to kill him. Mr Sowerberry was very angry and put Oliver in a dark room. Oliver wasn’t afraid when Mr Bumble came. Mr Bumble told them to stop giving him meat. That night Oliver fell to the floor and cried all night.

Early the next morning he put a few clothes in a handkerchief and he quietly left Mr Sowerberry’s shop.

 VOCABULARY

Let’s practise English with a board game. This time let’s throw the dice and talk in English.

What are the people doing in the picture?

Instructions:

1) Throw the dice.

2) Move the same number of spaces you have got.

3) Say a sentence in present continuous for that picture.

4) If it is correct you stay in that box, if it is incorrect you go back to your previous box.

5) Then, the next player throws the dice.

6) The first player that arrives to the “Finish” box wins!
