Portfolio: The story of Halloween

On 28th October you had a conference about the story of Halloween. You could understand a lot of information about the origins of this festivity celebrated on the 31st October. Remember you should write a summary of it.

Here you have some of the vocabulary you could hear and the images you could see.

Part 1 – From Celtic times:

Activity: Dictation race (desdoblament)

Whispering  Dictation      Race Race

On this third activity during desdoblament classes we had the students split into two parts. One half was with Maribel and the other half stayed with me.

The class was divided into two groups. Each group had a writer, a group of speakers and a reader. Only the reader could have the book from which he or she had to whisper step by step a specific text from our students’ book. It was called First Impressions from unit 1. The activity was about whispering the text from the reader, and whispering from ear to ear had to be traspassed through the speakers and finishing with the writer who would write the text on a piece of paper.

The winner was the one who got the better timing and had committed less mistakes.

The text was corrected by the whole group and checked by the teacher. No cheating allowed!

LEARNING ENGLISH ONLINE

 Web links

As you know, the more English you practice the better. So here you have very interesting web links you can use while studying English. Most of the times the different web links use to have a huge list of grammatical points, sections based on specific skills and so on. Just click away with your mouse and look for the needed exercise or test before an exam.

Practising English for the sake of practising also helps you to get to grips with the subject of English. No matter the level you have, it is always very positive to have food for thought ready before your eyes!

Here you have the links. If you click on comments, you will get your classmates’ favourite ones.

Portfolio: It drives me crazy!_3B

I hate it when people play loud music.

I hate it when people plays loud music, which I don’t like, of course. Here you have portfolio activity number 4. What is it that drives you crazy? Are you ok with people smoking next to you? Do you get annoyed when you’re interrupted? Are you ok when the person you are taking to starts text messaging? This activity was about making a list of the different things which annoy you most.

CAN DO statement: I can write about the things which annoy me most.

Thank you very much for your free topic compositions. You wrote about a variety of topics: hobbies, animals, best friends, last holidays, your life or the description of your bedroom.

CAN DO statement: I can express myself about a free topic.

Here you can have a look at my favourite ones.

Portfolio: My routines_3B

Daily routines

How often do you do your homework? Always, sometimes, never? This was your first portfolio activity after the holiday break. You had to write about your routines and you also included an image next to each one. You revised the present simple together with the frequency adverbs.

CAN DO statementI can use the adverbs of frequency and tell about my routines in the present simple.

Here you have a couple of examples from your classmates.

On Monday 20th October 2008 the English Department in IES Guinovarda had a special visit. We had our students from Taller de Diversitat and UAC helping us in our office. We got new bookshelves and they put them up for us.
