Oliver Twist, chapter 4: Fagin’s game

SUMMARY
Fagin teaches Oliver “the game of stealing”. One day, Oliver goes with Dodger and Charley Bates to the market. There, they see an old man who is looking at shop windows. Dodger put his hand in the old man’s pocket and pulled out a handkerchief. The old man starts shouting “Stop, thief!!!” Dodger and Charley cried “Stop, thief!!!” and Oliver starts running but the policeman catches him.

Finally, the bookseller tells the policeman that Oliver is innocent and the two other boys stole the handkerchief. Oliver was free but he was very weak and scared. The old man was very kind and said “Oh, poor boy” and took him to his house to look after him.

When Fagin knew that the policeman took him away, he was very angry. He was furious because Oliver could speak to the police. So he called his friend Bill Sikes to find Oliver. He had a plan.
