Teacher’s Guide
– TITLE: (THE WATER CYCLE)
– SUBJECT: Science
– TOPIC: Water
– GRADE: 3rd Cycle Primary Education AGE: 10-12 years old
– ABOUT THE PROJECT:
There is exactly the same amount of water on earth now that as there was when dinosaurs hung out at the local pond millions of years ago. Water keeps going around and around. It evaporates from rivers, lakes and oceans. The vapor from this forms clouds in the sky, then returns to earth again as rain or snow. This process is called the “Water Cycle”.
– AIMS:
*Understand that water on earth moves in a continuous cycle.
*Explain how the Water Cycle works.
*Be able to name and and explain the stages of the water cycle, using the new vocabulary.
– COMPETÈNCIES BÀSIQUES:
* Competència en comunicació lingüística: Using the specific terminology related to the unit.
* Coneixement i interacció amb el món físic i natural: Describing, explaining and predicting nature phenomena.
* Raonament matemàtic: Using Maths language to refer to data and ideas about nature.
* Competència digital i tractament de la informació: Search, gathering, selection, processing and presentation of the information.
* Social i ciutadana: Being aware of the issue that is water pollution in order to anaylze it and being able to prevent it.

– ASSESSMENT:
All the aspects of the teaching process will be evaluated: contents, objectives, school attendance, attitudes, interest, motivation, fulfilment of tasks, writing and care of their notebooks, respect for their schoolmates and teacher.
The main techniques will be direct observation of the student, inside and outside the classroom, and indirect observation, carried out through the analysis of individual and group works. Self-evaluation and peer evaluation, in which there is a mutual assess and exchange of roles (students assess teachers, groups of students do likewise with other groups of students…) are highly recommended.
– TASKS TO COMPLETE:
*A first look at the seas and oceans: An introductory video from NASA about salt role in the Water Cycle.
*The Water Cycle Game: a funny and interactive way to test your knowledge on the Water Cycle in class.
*The Cool Water Cycle song: An entertaining way to learn the way the cycle moves.
*An IWB activity: a final and interactive compilation to review all the contents in the unit.
– INCLUSIVE EDUCATION:
The use of an interactive board in class is definitely a key element for those teachers with Special Needs students in class. Some of the most important factors are:
*Complementarity: The SN student gets the message twice (the oral explanation from the teacher and the things the teacher points out from the board).
*Note-taking: The IWB helps the SN students to keep the same pace than his classmates at taking notes. They have more time to copy the key words from the board,
*Participation: The IWB allows the SN students to interact exactly the way their classmates do through digital activities.
*Multimedia: The use of videos and audio is extremely important and significant for SN students, who receive an extra flow of information in a suitable way.
*Staying in class: The IWB makes possible that SN students spend more time in the ordinary class with their classmates, taking advantage of the use of technology.
