Optional compositions for the first term

Writing  is a good way of learning, but a complicated process.  So for those clever and hard-working students who want more, these are the two composition they have to hand in to their teachers:

– An open-theme about an experience you have had.

– An email to an English penfriend coming to Spain. Remember to include some useful information for his/her visit.

Don’t forget the good writing will be rewarded!

Les teachers give you these five tips to improve your writing:

1. Learn the rules of grammar, spelling and punctuation.

2. Before you start writing, make sure you know what you want to say.

3. Don’t write too long sentences and use clear language.

 4. Revise and mark those  changes you can make later.

 5. Keep a dictionary to  look up new words and check the spelling.

HALLOWEEN: READING COMPREHENSION

Hi BSD students!

Here you have an extra reading about Halloween. Those who want to improve their mark click on the skeleton, read the horror story and then copy (not print) the questions and answers to hand in. Don’t forget to correct  the answers yourselves first! I hope you enjoy the reading.

Halloween is an ancient pagan festival. People used to believe that it was the night that witches flew and that horrible beasts and monsters walked around. Lanterns would be lit all night to keep evil spirits away. Good spirits were kept happy with food and warmth. Halloween used to be known as the ‘Festival of the Dead’. Christians changed the name to Halloween, meaning ‘All Hallows’ Eve’. It comes just before ‘All Saints’ Day’ (1st November) and ‘All Souls’ Day’ (2nd November). This period marks the beginning of winter.
