We teach Science at Vilademany School and We’re working about Energy and Magnetism with my pupils in 6th level, aged 11 12. I decided to do an experiment about electric circuits. I want to say that my pupils are very motivated to do all the experiments: in medi or in science and they really enjoy them and work a lot.
Last wednesday, 22nd January I applied my lesson plan about electric circuits. I recorded the class and I took some photos in order to make the presentation. It was fairly well. We accomplished the aims and we did all the activities.
First of all my pupils read the information we have in our science book about electrical conductors and insulators materials. After reading they said which can be the components in an electric circuit: batteries, light bulbs, motors, switches and conducting wires.
We talked about when an electric circuits works: when it’s closed and that if it’s opened it doesn’t work because the electric flow doesn’t pass through it.
Then I explained that they were going to build three electric circuits and I specified the characteristics for each one. They worked in groups and they made them. Two of the groups had a problem with the motors because they needed a smaller one in order to work together with electric bulb.
Then they explained what they did and how did it work. After that they drew the circuit scheme on the blackboard. They had some problems to draw where did they connect the wires and how did the switches work. I asked them some questions in order to know if they had understood the circuits. They answered them correctly.
The last part of the session was to explote the web resource: they went to computers and played with the electric circuit game. They loved it and they did it very well.
At the end we talked about what we did and we remembered components and how did an electric circuit work.
