My name is Jonathan Cane and I’m writing this from an island near Jamaica. My brother and sister are here too. We are lost and we can’t escape.

Life is very boring after ten days on this island. We haven’t got any games and we can’t see our friends either. Every day, I make a fire on the beach and look for boats.

We can’t survive here. It’s very hot and sunny. There isn’t much food. We sometimes eat birds. We eat insects too, but they are horrible.

My cousin’s name is Darren. He’s fourteen years old and he lives in Darlington.

Darren is a good friend. I like him because he is friendly. We sometimes disagree –  he likes hip-hop, but I hate it.

I often go to Darren’s house. We sometimes watch TV together. I like going to the sports centre with him. We play basketball and volleyball.
