“I’m a modernist (…) I’m always interested in clarity. It should be clear, it should be readable, it should be straight-forward. So I started using, gradually, grids for my designs, for my catalogs for museums. I invented a grid, and within the grid I played my game, but always along the lines of the grid, so that has a certain order in it. That is why I use grids, and that is why I call myself ‘Gridnik’. For me, it is a tool for creating order, and creating order is typography.”
