AFRICAN CRAFTS

This is a crosscurricular work . In our English lessons pupils read an African story and knew about musical instruments. Then, they spent some Art lessons making these crafts.

African masks
There are an enormous variety of masks used in Africa, with special meanings for the different cultures and made of natural materials (wood, ivory, leather or pottery).
Our masks are made of cardboard and decorated with raffia and tempera. The point is they have a symmetrical shape.

Dolls

These African dolls look colorful and rustic. Each doll carries a basket on her head or a hand held tray.

They are made of paper and glue and decorated with tempera and a fabric headdress. Do you like our clothing designs? They are unique.

Drums

The original djembes are made of wood and covered by a membrane. To make our drums we recycled differents cans and decorated them . The membrane is a balloon.

Puppets

In order to encourage children to speak we use drama activities in the class and it really works. At least they are enthusiastic and even overexcited and try to do their best. Our last play  were with very simple puppets: sock and stick puppets that pupils made themselves.

Here you are: “Chicken little” by 6B  and  “Find a bin to put it in” by 6A.

Sugar

A “sweet ending” for children in Primary 6. A videoclip with a  70’s popular song, Sugar sugar. We had the idea during the second term but time goes by so fast that we finished it just a week ago. We hope you enjoy it.

International Year of Astronomy 2009

Children in Primary 6 recorded these videos about our Solar System. That’s our contribution to the year celebration.

Let’s cook!

For one of the topics in Unit 3 was healthy food, I proposed  my pupils to practice any easy and wellknown recipe at home -with mum’s help, of course. So they did. They took the photos  and finally wrote the directions in class. Well done everyone!

The school lunch menu

Healthy food helps children grow up healthy too. But they are not very likely to eat vegetables, are they? Let’s watch how the school lunch room assistant tries to improve student’s diet.

The superlative quiz show

This was an  improvised activity. It wasn’t a text that my pupils  had read or listened to and no reherseals  were done. They chose their roles and were spontaneous and free to act out. It was motivating and fun.
