Let’s celebrate the European Day of Languages together!

The aim of the project is to make the preparations and celebrate the European Day of Languages together. Students have to make postcards for every partner school and record themselves speaking and singing in their own beautiful languages, but they are also free to choose among a number of volunteer activities (proposed by our partners) to prepare for celebrating the EDL . All these activities need to be completed on time, so on the 26th September every partner school can celebrate the European Day of Languages presenting everything that has been made for that special day.

AIMS

The main aim of this project is to raise awareness of the Europe’s rich linguistic diversity and encourage lifelong language learning in and out of school. It is our intention that students are exposed and familiarize with the sounds and the alphabet of other European languages, develop their creativity and learn about other European countries in a fun way.

WORK PROCESS

Exchanging postcards with students from all over Europe. Pupils will make postcard themseves presenting their country or city and write short wishes in English and in national languge. They will add some information about themselves (What’s your name? , Where are you from?, Where do you live?, How old are you?, etc.). We will send the cards in one envelope.
Making the exhibition of the postcards. At school we show the postcards to the locality in order to promote lifelong learning of languages and show Eauropean diversity. After the exhibition children will take cards home.
Online exchange of posters. We will create in group work posters which promote foreign language and encourage people to celebrate EDL. We can exchange posters by publishing them in the Internet. Then, we can print posters and make an exhibition at school. Singing together. We will make a video with children saying “Happy European Day of Languges” in English and national language. We can also sing “Happy birthday” song in English and in national language or “Frere Jacques” song.

Creating a mindmap full of languages. We will make an online collaborative mindmap with words in different European languages – each country will be responsible for its own language and one more they choose to work on.

EXPECTED RESULTS

Our project will provide each partner school with the materials (postcards, songs, recordings, etc) to celebrate the European Day of Languages in their own unique way and give students the satisfaction of helping each other with the preparations for the event.
