Sonia Delaunay (Orphism art movement)

Let’s observe Sonia Delaunay artworks.

Sonia Delaunay (November 14, 1885 – December 5, 1979) was a Ukrainian-born French artist, who spent most of her working life in Paris and, with her husband Robert Delaunay and others, cofounded the Orphism art movement. She uses strong colors and geometric shapes.

You need: Primary colored paper,secondary colored paper,glue sticks, drawing paper, black construction paper, scissors.
Procedure:

  1. Let’s review what primary and secondary colors are.
    Let’s  review geometric shapes.
  2. Cut out  a variety of sizes and shapes and glue geometric shapes from primary or secondary colors.
  3. Let’s make a balanced art work ( not all red shapes together, not all squares together…)

Cray-Pas Oil Pastel inspired in Paul Klee

Students will create Paul klee inspired Cityscapes using geometric shapes, crayons, and watercolor resist technique.

Procedure:

Let’s observe some Paul klee’s artworks. What shapes can you see?

2. Using geometric shapes, draw squares, triangles circles or rectangles to create your cityscape. Keep at least a space in between each shape. Be sure to leave enough space up above for your sky. You can use wooden blocks and a ruler.

3. Select your colors and fill in each shape with crayons. (Can not
use white)

4. Next fill in your sky with crayon leaving a gap around your shapes just like in step 1. (Do not use white)

5. With a white crayon fill in the gaps you left around your shapes and sky.

6. Using the watercolor resist technique, lighty cover your whole drawing with watercolor (use  dark color).
