1. Advertising exists since people have tried to make money. There have been advertisements since Ancient Rome, but the first adverts as we know them, date back to seventeenth century newspapers.
2. In the nineteenth century companies realized that they had to create new needs in consumers to improve their sales and become better than their competitors, so advertising became very important and included images and words.
3. Advertising in the early part of the twentieth century was focused in politics, mostly to persuade people to join a political party or join the army for the First World War. These adverts usually used psychological manipulation.

1. The history of advertising changed when people started to be able to read. Before that, they used symbols and images and there also were the town callers. After that, adverts appeared in newspapers and had words. In the nineteenth century, adverts started to be paid.
2. Women had been very important in the history of advertising. They were usually housewives, so they became very important in the advertising creative process because women were responsible for the purchase.
3. In 1920 the sponsoring phenomenon appeared in the radio and a few years later in the television: that is the advertising we know nowadays. In this century, the creative process started to be more important, the slogans’ messages and the music became most important than the advert in itself.
